GENERAL FUNCTION: Assists with the coordination and implementation testing of all vessel equipment and systems, up to and including sea trials, in compliance with customer requirements. Reports directly to the QA/QC Manager.

TYPICAL FUNCTIONS: The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities.

  • Analyzes specifications to determine testing requirements. Assists with writing testing procedures in compliance with requirements.
  • Orders and maintains calibrated test instruments, gauges, and meters. Arranges for calibration of instruments to comply with specifications. Maintains calibration files for records.
  • Conducts and completes all testing and sea trials prior to acceptance, by the customer. Responds to all inquiries of customers, and agents of regulatory bodies concerning vessel testing.
  • Maintains current documents of testing for all projects. Submits standard and special status reports as assigned.
  • Addresses deficiencies evidenced as a result of the testing and work with Company engineers to correct deficiencies.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Considerable knowledge of shipbuilding processes and industry standards and regulations. Good knowledge of testing equipment and measuring devices and the ability to instruct inspectors on their proper operation. Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications and develop sound, thorough inspection programs. Ability to interface effectively with customers, management, and employees in all areas within the division.

DESIRABLE EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING

Completion of four years of college-level course work equivalent to a B.S. in Engineering or a closely related area preferred. Extensive experience in quality assurance duties combined with some supervisory experience or any equivalent combination of experience and training which results in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Formal electrical training; i.e. 4 year electrical apprenticeship program, vocational certification, a trade school for electrical commercial/industrial wiring or equivalent. Considerable knowledge of shipbuilding processes and industry standards and regulations. Good knowledge of testing equipment and measuring devices and the ability to instruct specifications and develop sound, thorough inspection programs. Ability to effectively supervise and to interface effectively with customers, management, and employees in all areas within the division.
