Visitnature.comand follow @Nature / @NaturePortfolio About the Role Nature, the international journal of science, is looking for an eagle-eyed Subeditor to help us maintain our high standards of accuracy and readability. The successful candidate will be comfortable reading and writing about science, a stickler for grammar and facts, and able to work autonomously and flexibly as part of a close-knit team to subedit articles for both print and online in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities: Subediting material accepted or written for publication byNaturewithin production deadlines and to the highest possible standard Writing crisp and engaging headlines and standfirsts that don't resort to cliche Fact-checking content Correcting proofs, artwork and pages during the production process, to ensure that the pages are finished to the appropriate standard for output Ensuring that content, including multimedia, is correctly and appropriately displayed online Experience, Skills &Qualifications: Degree in a scientific discipline Demonstrable ability to proofread text and artwork. Attention to detail Ability to work in a team Ability to prioritize a variety of tasks Strong time management Broad interest in and an understanding of science. Adaptable with the ability to cope under pressure Experience of subediting scientific, medical, or technical copy for an audience of non-specialists preferred Working knowledge of Adobe InDesign preferred Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills Tact in dealing with authors and colleagues To apply:Please include a CV and Cover Letter outlining your interest in the role as well as your salary expectations and notice period. The salary offer may vary based on work experience, education, skill level, and equity.
