Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 an hour, depending on experience and qualifications Position Summary The Department of Campus Safety at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science invites applications for a Full-Time Shift Lead Security Officer position. The hours will be 11:00 pm to 7:00 am on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. As an essential employee, Security Officers may be required to work over their shift occasionally. The Lead Security Officer performs duties to maintain the security and safety of students, faculty, staff and visitors; works to safeguard the property of the University and its community. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Provide leadership and direction to line level officers on the assigned shift.
- Make daily work assignments on the assigned shift to effectively and efficiently provide security and safety services to the RFUMS community.
- Provide daily roll call training to line level officers that enhances their ability to serve the campus community, increase officer safety and effectiveness and boost morale and productivity.
- Ensure all staff are completing training required by university and/or department and assist them with any questions. This will require the Lead Officer to also complete training in a timely manner.
- Provide leadership and direction to line level officers at critical incidents and emergency locations.
- Review all shift reports written by line level officers on the assigned shift prior to submission to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Represent the department at various meetings or committees as assigned.
- Lead Officers are required to have the ability to perform all the essential duties and responsibilities of a line level Security Officer (to include):
- Monitor security access control system, security cameras, fire alarm notification panels and other notification systems.
- Make routine checks of campus and student residential areas, looking for hazardous, unusual or suspicious conditions requiring security action or assistance.
- Provide professional security services at special events as assigned.
- Respond to emergencies and breaches of the public peace and prepare appropriate reports.
- Perform security tours and be observant for safety and security issues while on security tours and anytime on duty.
- Check in all visitors while stationed at the security station(s).
- Receive and coordinate incoming phone calls to the University anytime the switchboard is closed.
- Duties may involve an element of danger and exposure to unpleasant and potentially dangerous people and/or circumstances, and require Security Officer to act without direct supervision and exercise independent judgment in meeting emergencies.
- Perform transportation duties as assigned.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Lead Officer will make recommendations to the Assistant Director and Director of Campus Safety to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the assigned shift and the Campus Safety Department.
- Lead Officers are expected to be available by phone for campus emergencies or staffing shortages and/or call-back within one-hour unless other arrangements are made with the Assistant Director. Part-time Shift Leads must be reachable within 24 hours.

Conditions of Employment

Required Education & Experience
- High school diploma/completion or equivalent.
- Prior experience in high public contact security or closely related field.
- 20 hours of security training or other equivalent security/law enforcement experience/training.
- Experience supervising others or the ability to learn the skills necessary.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Demonstrated ability to relate well to people from a variety of socioeconomic, ethnic, racial, and language backgrounds.
- Ability to use a computer with an understanding of access control systems, CCTV systems, spreadsheets, and word processing.
- Ability to perform security tours, which requires frequent walking of all buildings.
- Ability to safely operate university vehicles.
- Ability to properly think, reason, and respond in an emergency situation.
- Ability to maintain emotional poise under stress.
- Effective written, verbal, and personal communication skills.
- Selected candidates must achieve positive results from a background investigation.
- Ability to supervise and lead other Security Officers and gain their trust and respect.
Preferred Qualification
- Security experience in a higher education environment.
- Experience supervising security or police officers.
- Associates or Bachelors degree.

Typical Physical Demands & Working Conditions
- Selected candidate must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Must be able to occasionally lift and carry a minimum of 20 pounds.
- Work environment is indoor and outdoor and requires walking, light lifting, prolonged periods of sitting and observing a computer screen and video monitors, climbing and descending stairways, being exposed to extreme weather conditions and operation of the Tour Pipe System.
- Position requires walking on security rounds indoors and outdoors; driving on security rounds outdoors, and being stationed indoors at Security Station
