Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Supervisor - Speech Pathology.

In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for the supervision of assigned staff and the management of the daily operation of Speech/Language Pathology Department. Demonstrates an understanding of the goals of the departments and establishes objectives by which the assigned staff will accomplish them. Reviews departmental goals and direction with Acting Director and Director.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Monitors all patient care activities and assists Acting Director in coordinating smooth flow of activities in the department. Receives and processes patient referrals, prioritizes scheduling and supervises the implementation of established patient care procedures. Meets with assigned staff and with other departments as necessary in order to evaluate and maintain patients progress and monitor needs. Provides concise relevant reports regarding evaluation findings, patients progress, and monitors & ensures accurate and timely documentation of treatment performed by staff. Conveys recommendations for patient management made by staff to team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrates continued proficiency in skills required to treat assigned patient population.
  • Oversees departments daily attendance records, completes pediatric operational summary and prepares monthly reports as necessary and submits to Director on a timely basis for review. Prepares minutes and/or provides records of departmental and interdepartmental meetings. Oversees pediatric departmental records and audits clinical files as needed. Instructs and provides feedback to staff regarding standards and procedures in report writing and documentation.
  • Oversees the purchase, storage or maintenance of supplies and equipment for department and makes recommendations. Maintains records of purchases and received equipment. Delegates responsibilities for routine care and maintenance of supplies and equipment to staff.
  • Assists in development and implementation of new procedures or programs under supervision of the Acting Director. Reviews and updates procedures in P&P manual according to changing departmental needs. Communicates changes in procedures to staff, monitors implementation of changes. Considers and encourages suggestions from staff to upgrade quality of program. Suggests new programs to respond to changing patient care needs, changes in health care delivery and capabilities of staff. Identifies problems and plans for future needs (re: space, time, resources, health care delivery, and capabilities of staff.).
  • Assesses, directs, and implements intervention for selected patients referred by physicians. Uses medical and social history to determine requirements for and constraints on evaluation. Interviews patient and caregivers to verify and obtain information, determine functional communication ability, and establish patients understanding of disability. Conduct SLP evaluations according to procedures outlined in P&P manual. Refers patients to appropriate speech/language service when patients are outside geographic area.
  • Orients staff facilitates growth and development in patient care management and therapeutic skills. Communicates responsibilities to staff and orients them to department policies and procedures. Advises staff in their role on the interdisciplinary team. Provides encouragement to staff to explore own development as a means of quality of care. Monitors and/or executes CFY supervision program.
  • Evaluates and documents staff performance, counsels and disciplines staff (in consultation with Acting Director) according to NYULH personnel policy and procedure. Evaluates staff performance on an ongoing basis and provides feedback to staff. Documents staff performance in clear, concise, manner. Guides and counsels staff toward performance improvement and or development. Assigns staff to particular responsibilities. Communicates the performance difficulties of a given staff member to the Acting Director.

Minimum Qualifications:
Masters degree in Speech/Language Pathology plus NYS license and Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech/Language Pathology from ASHA. BLS certification (Issued by the American Heart Association-AHA, or the American Red Cross-ARC) OR CPR/AED certification (issued by the American Heart Association-AHA, or the American Red Cross-ARC) is required upon entry to the position.

Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum five (5) years of continuous clinical experience in Speech Language Pathology with a minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience preferred.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $81,325.15 - $135,541.73 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
