job purpose:

This position is responsible for supporting the maintenance department by ensuring parts are readily available and assisting with the data entry and management of the computerized maintenance management (CMM) system for parts and purchase orders. Work involves maintaining an adequate inventory of parts for all plant manufacturing and facility equipment. Employee is responsible for inventorying, stocking, sourcing, and issuing part supplies along with purchasing assigned or designated parts and services from an approved list of vendors.

responsibilities:



  • Prepare, maintain, and review purchasing files, reports and price lists
  • Checks parts catalog for proper part identification; contacts vendors to obtain price quotes
  • Assembles and fills purchase orders as requested by plant personnel
  • Contact suppliers to schedule or expedite deliveries and to resolve shortages, missed or late deliveries, and other problems
  • Issues replacement parts to mechanics; assists mechanics in choice of parts
  • Determine if inventory quantities are sufficient for needs, ordering more materials when necessary.
  • Complies with all regulations regarding the handling of hazardous materials. Obtains Material Safety Data Sheets as required from vendors.
  • Procures equipment and specialized tools required to perform jobs.
  • Prepare purchase orders and send copies to suppliers and to departments originating requests
  • Calculate costs of orders, and charge or forward invoices to appropriate accounts.
  • Compare suppliers' bills with bids and purchase orders in order to verify accuracy
  • Locate suppliers, using sources such as catalogs and the internet, and interview them to gather information about products to be ordered
  • Monitor in-house inventory movement and complete inventory transfer forms for bookkeeping purposes
  • Gathers necessary engineering, contractors, or technical documents, specifications, and drawings.
  • May be relied upon after-hours and weekends if parts need to be couriered, in the event of a breakdown.



skills/qualifications required:



  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Experience with CMMS/purchasing software systems
  • Minimum 5 years work experience in mechanical discipline sourcing parts.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.

working conditions and physical requirements:

Regular use of a variety of machines and tools is essential. Standing for extended periods is common. Hearing and vision within normal range is important for conversations, to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect documents, manuals and drawings. Good math and reasoning ability is essential. Able to understand and utilize engineering drawings, operating manuals, and blueprints to conduct business.

Sitting/Standing/Walking: Stands, walks and sits during completion of job responsibilities.

Lifting/Carrying: Occasional lifting requirements as job demands. Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs. on an occasional basis.

Pushing/Pulling: Occasional pushing or pulling requirements.

Bending/Stooping: Occasional bending and stooping requirements.

Squatting/Kneeling/Crawling: Occasional kneeling or crawling requirements.

Twisting/Turning: Ongoing twisting or turning requirements.

Climbing/Balancing Climbing and balancing is required during plant inspections, and other related job requirements. Must be able to climb ladders and work at elevations of 75 feet.

Reaching: Ongoing reaching requirements associated with job requirements.

Grasping/Manipulating: Grasping and manipulating of papers, objects, and equipment will be required. Ability to keyboard for data input will be required on an ongoing basis.

  • Notify supervision of any repairs or adjustments that are required that may affect product quality or food safety.
  • Understand, observe, and comply with the handling and usage of the color-coded container policy while in the Production Areas.
  • Perform all duties necessary to meet Company, Customer and/or Government requirements/standards as prioritized by the Company.
  • Ability to initiate action to prevent the occurrence of nonconformities relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the product, processes, quality system, or safety system.
  • Identify and record any problems relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the ingredients, processes, quality system, or safety system.
  • Control further processing or delivery of nonconforming product in terms of Food Safety and Quality issues until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.
  • In the event of absence, another employee with the same skill level will assume the duties and responsibilities as required.
