MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION Required
- Education
High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience
2 years of GI Lab Technician experience Must be able to read, speak and write English proficiently. - Taking call is required
- Licenses and Certifications
(BLS) BASIC LIFE SUPPORT certification, course from The American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
Preferred
- Experience
Pulmonary experience preferred.
- Licenses and Certifications
(CFER) Cert Flex Endoscope Reprocess certification or SGNA certification
JOB DUTIES
- Assists physician during endoscopic procedures.
- Provides pre, intra and post-operative care to patients undergoing endoscopic procedures with and without sedation/ anesthesia. Applies appropriate monitoring equipment.
- Knowledge of equipment, medication and supplies used in the Endoscopy Lab. Ability to set-up, calibrate, operate and troubleshoot the equipment.
- Performs technical and specialized skills during procedures. Assists with procedure room turnover.
- Prepares rooms, equipment, and supplies to accommodate the patient load. Maintains an adequate supply level not only in procedure rooms, but also in the supply storage room. Make appropriate notification of low par levels and need for special order supplies.
- Responsible for cleansing, disinfecting, and storing equipment used in various endoscopic procedures according to established hospital policy and professional organizational guidelines.
- Promotes safety by checking all equipment for proper working order prior to endoscopic procedure.
- Provides patient education, as requested, both pre and post procedure.
- Serves as technical subject matter expert, resource person and/or preceptor to staff from other departments in regards to all aspects of the Endoscopy lab and Endoscope Reprocessing.
- Organizes and prioritizes procedural tasks based on the identified need. Demonstrates competency to operate all Endoscopy Lab Equipment and supplies. Demonstrates proficiency and independence.
- Ability to solve minor issues of errors, patient care, relationships, equipment, supplies and environment prior to management intervention. Provides and supports efforts to develop and maintain the team environment.
- Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions: a) Directly interacting with or caring for patients; b) Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants; c) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting patient records (including patient financial records); or d) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting human-subjects research records.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
