Primary Purpose:

The Director of Accounting and Compliance will support Emmes' VP, Global Accounting by leading the accounting close process, reviewing the monthly consolidated financial statements, supporting technical accounting needs, and overseeing and driving system improvements. This director will also ensure that the company remains in compliance with local tax and statutory requirements for the Americas. Must be able to work effectively with individuals both within the global Controller's Group as well as outside the department and proactively work with internal stakeholders to assess the operations of the organization and make recommendations to improve processes and create efficiencies. The Director of Accounting and Compliance will use financial systems, including Costpoint, Microsoft Dynamics GP, Concur and other tools to perform critical accounting functions and organize and generate the monthly consolidated financial statements.


Responsibilities

  • Leads and manages the monthly close process for all North America legal entities. Including managing the time postings process, payroll entries, benefit allocations, recurring journal entries, intercompany reconciliations, balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Manages the US accounting team for all business units (Government, BioPharma and Veridix).
  • Oversees and supports the LATAM accounting manager with the accounting close, payroll entries, intercompany reconciliation and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Supports the maintenance of the indirect cost structure in Deltek, including disclosure statements, managing incurred cost audits, and completing incurred cost submissions.
  • Partners with the VP, Government Accounting to ensure ongoing compliance with the CAS statement and other government accounting requirements within the system.
  • Manages and reviews the allocation of shared services (corporate) costs across the global organization.
  • Reviews the US, Canada and LATAM monthly financial statements, including translation of LATAM accounting principles to U.S. GAAP, translation of foreign currency to reporting currency.
  • Managed the end-to-end intercompany process each month. Ensures the intercompany balances eliminate each month.
  • Provides technical accounting support related to a range of transactions, including ASC 805 business combinations, software development costs, leases and debt amendments/modifications.
  • Partners with finance leaders on process improvements, including system assessment and implementation efforts.
  • Lead for the D365 accounting system implementation for North America and LATAM entities.
  • Manages and tracks the company compliance with federal and state tax requirements. Includes partnering with PwC to review the tax provision and tax returns.
  • Leads all accounting owned compliance matters for states and local entity requirements for the US. Includes Census and partnering with the payroll team to ensure payroll tax compliance remains on track.
  • Supports the Senior Manager, Global PTP with the integration of Concur to the accounting systems.
  • Training leader for the global accounting teams. Partner with the Training and Development internal team to ensure cross training and documentation for all functions.
  • Supports M&A integration for accounting processes and financial reporting
  • Leads or assists with ad-hoc assignments and analysis as needed.
  • Leads the financial statement audit and government annual audits required by NIH.
  • Promotes a high-quality internal customer experience for both internal and external clients.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; Master's degree in Accounting, Finance or CA/CPA preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant working experience in Finance/Accounting and 4 years of relevant management experience.
  • Experience working in a Federal Government Contracting environment encouraged.
