S&ME's Nashville office is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic candidate to lead its strong and growing Geotechnical Team as a Geotechnical Services Manager. S&ME prioritizes high-quality client relationships, sound technical approaches, and collaborative problem solving with coworkers, clients, and project team members. This approach has allowed Nashville's Geotechnical Team to make waves in the local market, and the team is actively supporting some of Nashville and Middle Tennessee's most exciting and high-profile projects in the Commercial Real Estate, Institutional, and Transportation Markets.

Your Role: Hands-On, Impactful, and Fast-Paced

As a Geotechnical Services Manager, you will work as part of S&ME's 100+ member Geotechnical Service Line and be the face of these services in the Middle Tennessee market. You will demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for developing relationships with clients, mentoring and developing junior staff, and collaborating with other S&ME staff across multiple service lines and locations, including Senior Geotechnical Engineers and Technical Principals.

What You'll Do:



  • Leadership/Team Management: Actively manage a multidisciplinary team and lead day-to-day business operations for the Geotechnical Service Line (e.g. project management, business development, safety, quality, finance, HR, and risk management).
  • Business Planning & Strategy: Work with other team leaders to develop and execute an annual business plan and a long-term office/market strategy.
  • Manage Geotechnical Exploration Projects of All Sizes: Develop proposals and reports and execute projects in a manner consistent with expectations developed by S&ME's Project Management Council.
  • Business Development: Leverage company tools and resources to engage in business development activities and drive cross-selling of Environmental, Geotechnical, and Construction Materials Testing services.
  • Industry Connections: Cultivate industry connections by participating in local organizations to strengthen the company's brand awareness and expand professional networks.



What We're Looking For:



  • A Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Geotechnical Engineering or a Construction-related field, a plus
  • PE Licensure in the State of Tennessee or have the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment
  • 6+ years of experience supporting and managing geotechnical engineering projects
  • The understanding of consultants in the A/E/C industry and what it takes to provide value to clients and generate successful projects from a technical and financial perspective
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining client relationships and proven ability to win work
  • The ability and desire to divide time between the office and regular site visits in the field to support and engage field staff


In addition to the qualifications identified above, experience in the Middle Tennessee market and with Construction Materials Testing projects is a plus.
