About the College/Unit/Department
The Office of University Architects ( OUA) is responsible for the development and management of the campus master plan, including transportation planning, historic preservation planning, environmental planning, and precinct planning; the development and management of campus site design and architectural standards; GIS management of existing conditions; and the coordination and project management of major capital projects for all of the UGA campuses across the state.

Minimum Qualifications
Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in related field
  • 5 years' experience in construction, site projects, and renovation projects
  • 10 years' experience in facilities operations within higher education
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Licensed Landscape Architect

Position Summary
The role involves working closely with the Director of Campus Planning to coordinate and plan the development of campus geographic areas, construction projects, and space needs. This includes conducting feasibility and programming studies to evaluate and develop facility solutions. The individual collaborates with project managers to support capital project design, focusing on landscape and hardscape, and works with various university departments and external agencies to ensure effective project coordination and compliance with ordinances and regulations. They perform professional landscape architectural work, gather data from UGA personnel and external consultants, and compile final report documents. Additionally, they oversee all aspects of project management, including consultant selection, design reviews, construction administration, and project closeout, ensuring projects meet aesthetic and quality expectations. The role requires maintaining knowledge of UGA standards, outside ordinances, and current trends to complete successful studies and communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders.

  • Comprehensive understanding of campus planning principles and landscape architecture along with knowledge of relevant regulations.
  • Strong analytical skills for feasibility studies
  • Proficiency in project management,
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with stakeholders and ensure effective project coordination including on time, on budget, meeting aesthetic and quality expectations.
  • Capable of reviewing and analyzing designs, making recommendations, and maintaining relationships to ensure compliance with regulations and successful project outcomes.
  • Ability to direct and plan the work of technical and professional subordinates.

Physical Demands

  • Visits construction sites on regular basis where the terrain is uneven and rough in all types of weather conditions.
  • Stand, bend, stoop and squeeze into tight spaces on construction sites.

  • Provide all aspects of oversight for project management including professional consultant selection, aesthetic and technical design reviews, construction administration, commissioning, project closeout, and warranty phase.
  • Coordinate projects: on time, on budget, while meeting aesthetic and quality expectations.

  • Advises and counsels subordinates while work is in progress.

  • Work directly with project managers to support capital project design (primarily the surrounding landscape and hardscape) and implementation.
  • Collaborate with Facilities Management Division, Environmental Safety and other entities to ensure effective project coordination.
  • Develop relationships and coordinate efforts with multiple university departments to plan and develop programmatic/feasibility studies.
  • Interacts with external agencies to ensure compliance with applicable ordinances and regulations.
  • Review designs and make recommendations with consideration of UGA standards or ordinances/regulations.
