UMKC School of Medicine - Curriculum/Medical Education

Job Description

The UMKC School of Medicine is seeking a qualified candidate for the Curriculum Manager in the Office of Medical Education. The Manager will be responsible for supporting the Council on Curriculum (Office of Medical Education) in managing the delivery of quality educational programs and the development and implementation of effective strategies to meet medical program objectives. The Manager provides administrative oversight across all years of curriculum for medical students in the UMKC School of Medicine BA/MD, MD, and OS/MD programs.

This position reports directly to the Senior Associate Dean of Medical Education and is responsible for implementation of curriculum, ensuring continuous data management, analysis and reporting for compliance of LCME and regional accreditation standards. The Manager is a key member of the Curriculum (Medical Education) leadership team and supports all curricular, assessment, and instructional aspects of the UMKC BA/MD, MD, and OSMD programs at the Health Sciences District and collaborates with the curriculum manager at the St. Joseph regional campus.

This individual oversees the day-to-day operations of the Curriculum/Medical Education office.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage implementation, review and evaluation of ongoing curriculum evaluation to maintain program expectations and support Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), and Higher Learning Commission (HLC) accreditation compliance including frequent review of current policies.
  • Assist with implementation of evidence-based curricular changes that are innovative, competency based, and aligned with the UMKC SOM Strategic Plan in collaboration with the Medical Education leadership team and Course and Clerkship Directors.
  • Collect and manage data to track student and program performance outcomes to achieve program objectives and goals and create action plans to address concerns.
  • Act as a curriculum liaison between the Health Sciences District and St. Joseph regional campus; serve as part of the curriculum leadership team on committees and subcommittees related to education and curriculum.
  • Assist in the monthly Executive Performance Review process and regular course review, including assessing the long-term and short-term effectiveness and quality of pre-clinical and clinical courses and clerkships.
  • Provide day-to-day direction, coordination, and implementation of a successful pre-clinical and clinical curriculum for the BA/MD, MD, and OS/MD programs.
  • Communicate resources, policies, and guidelines to staff, faculty, and students, as well as develop communications regarding updates and changes.
  • Implement and maintain a student advisory panel for the office of medical education.
  • Select, train, and develop staff members (3-5); provide continued education for faculty members on updated learning management systems and current teaching and assessment methodologies.
  • Assist with management of department budget, including staff, faculty, and resource allocation to ensure effective education operations and meeting the critical targets and goals in curriculum development.
Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Three years of administrative experience in higher education or medical education is required.

Master's in education or health professions from a regionally accredited college or university preferred.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Anticipated salary is $52,915 - $ 55,000 annual, commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity.
