Position Title: Community Engagement Outreach Coordinator
Position Type: Non-Exempt Temporary (Part-time)
Start Date: Immediate
End Date: July 31, 2025

Position Summary

The Community Engagement Outreach Coordinator will support the implementation of a community engagement strategy in collaboration with the CEARCH team. This individual will lead and coordinate outreach efforts with community-based organizations (CBOs) across the state that have a mutual interest in advancing research initiatives aimed at improving community health outcomes. The Coordinator will serve as a vital liaison, promoting visibility, enhancing communication, and fostering mutually beneficial partnerships between the community and CEARCH.

Key Responsibilities

Community Engagement Strategy Implementation

  • Support the roll-out of CEARCH's statewide community engagement strategy to build trusted, sustained partnerships with community organizations.
  • To promote, establish and expand CEARCH education programming that serves diverse communities.

Partnership Development

  • Identify and assess the needs and priorities of community-based partners that can inform research initiatives and highlight community health concerns.

Relationship Management

  • Lead efforts to foster strong collaboration between CEARCH and community organizations, including hosting regular in-person and virtual conversations.

Outreach & Representation

  • Represent CEARCH by delivering presentations and participating at community forums, outreach activities, community events, and statewide engagements - focus on rural areas - to strengthen relationships and public trust in the agency's mission.

Communications & Storytelling

  • Collaborate with the marketing and communications teams to enhance storytelling efforts, support the development of a community engagement communications plan, and grow CEARCH's visibility.

Minimal Deliverables & Milestones

Within the First Two Weeks

  • Build out the CEARCH directory of community organizational partners using Zoho.
  • Craft mutually beneficial talking points to serve as a framework for outreach to prospective partners.

Within the First Month

  • Host virtual or in-person conversations with at least three organizations using the developed talking points.
  • Participate in or identify at least two community events, with emphasis on rural areas.

Ongoing (Monthly)

  • Host virtual and in-person engagement with a minimum of 10 community-based organizations.
  • Attend at least two community events, particularly in rural regions.
  • Continue populating and updating the CEARCH community partner directory.

By Contract End (July 31, 2025)

  • Deliver a well-informed, comprehensive database of prospective and current community partners.
  • Engage in a minimum of two events over the summer.
  • Submit a draft Community Engagement Outreach Strategy report, including insights, recommendations, and process documentation.

Reporting: This position reports to the CEARCH Assistant Director. Regular check-ins will be scheduled to review milestones, challenges, and progress.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in community engagement, outreach, or public health education, with a demonstrated ability to lead culturally responsive programs serving diverse and underrepresented communities.
  • Proven track record of building and sustaining partnerships with community-based organizations, especially in rural and marginalized communities, to inform and support collaborative health and research initiatives.
  • Strong communication skills, including experience in crafting strategic messaging, and representing organizations in public forums and community events.
  • Demonstrated experience in program and project management, including tracking engagement metrics, managing community partner databases, and contributing to reports, contracts, and grant deliverables.
  • Deep understanding of and commitment to health equity, with a history of incorporating community voice into public health strategies, research efforts, and decision-making processes.
About the Department

The University of Minnesota Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) mission is to accelerate and improve clinical and translational science research, education and improve health. CTSI provides consultation, training, support, and services to researchers and research teams across the translational continuum. CTSI is part of the national, NIH-funded Clinical Translational Science Award (CTSA) program/consortium that works together to improve the efficiency, quality, and impact of clinical and translational research and science.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $45-$100/hr; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
