Position : Mechanical Testing Technician Position Hours: 1st Shift: 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM Monday - Friday Position Wage: $20.00 - $30.00/ hr Job Description: The Mechanical Testing Technician is responsible for collaborating with all other Quality functions, providing resources and assistance and ensuring the consistent flow of product through the mechanical testing work center. Job Duties & Responsibilities: Perform mechanical testing evaluations to determine the mechanical properties of metallurgical samples Document lab results in Bluestreak, Midwest Metallurgical Laboratories (MML) in-house operating system Assist the machine shop with sample preparation Perform various other metallurgical evaluations including but not limited to tensile, impact, hardness and bend testing Section and prepare samples for evaluation Coordinate the outsourcing of parts that need a third-party evaluation Perform micro hardness testing Document and interpret photographs of sample microstructures Perform basic maintenance on all mechanical testing equipment Calibrate equipment as required Monitor & maintain mechanical testing supplies Verify tags are accurate and complete Maintain sample archive Prepare items for transfer between various work centers Generate, fill out, and assist in the investigation of Non-Conformances Coordinate with lab personnel to ensure due dates are met and information flows to the correct individuals Ensure mechanical testing lab organization & cleanliness Instruct new workers in machine operation Maintain furnace equipment as needed Minimum Requirements: This position must satisfy ITAR (DSP-5) compliance requirements; therefore, candidates must be a lawful permanent resident [8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(20)] or a protected individual [8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)]. Employment of Foreign Persons(s) [22 CFR 120.63] will be contingent on receiving the DSP-5 license from the US State Department. May be required to obtain and maintain forklift operation certification May be required to work overtime or any shift, including weekends. Physical & Mental Demands: The following physical and mental demands consist of but are not limited to the following: High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional education is preferred. 2 years previous mechanical testing, machining and/or heat treat experience considered a plus Must be able to work in a standing position for extended periods in a non-climate controlled industrial environment Ability to bend, pull, stoop, and reach to perform functions. Capable of lifting and carrying at least 25-pound objects throughout shift Must be exposed to heat, fumes, noise, humidity, etc. Must have the cognitive and mental capacity to perform essential job functions. Must demonstrate the ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language. Must demonstrate the ability to perform fundamental mathematical skills and concepts (e.g. addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, percentages, and the basics of algebra and geometry). Visual acuity to read documents, computer screens, files, etc. Ability to hear in person and via phone.
