Job Summary

Milwaukee Public Schools seeks exceptional Instructional Coach: Trauma Informed (Grades K-12) candidates who are highly qualified and knowledgeable to join our community of teachers, learners, and leaders.

The Instructional Coach - Trauma Informed position utilizes and coordinates evidenced-based resources available to promote trauma-sensitive environments, recognize traumatic stress, and respond to the impact of trauma on the MPS community while resisting re-traumatization.

Broad responsibilities include supporting trauma sensitive practices within the school climate and culture as well as promoting the benefits of trauma informed care aimed at improving student wellbeing and outcomes. This position works closely with the principal and other support staff in the building including the school psychologist, social worker, counselor, SEL Champion and parent coordinator, to provide an additional layer of support. This position will develop relationships with support staff to develop collaborative opportunities and to convey/receive pertinent information around traumatic experiences.

Conditions of Employment

Working environment: Typical office or school environment. Position may be required to work additional hours, outside of the normal business day.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful experience in an urban school district as a fully certified teacher working with Trauma Informed Care is required.
  • An appropriate educator's license granted by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction is required.
  • Master's degree in education, School Counseling, School Psychology, or School Social Work is required.
  • Experience providing training and coaching to educators preferred.
Responsibilities

  • Supports district related district initiatives (Not a Number Curriculum, Teletherapy, Student leadership summit, etc.).
  • Supports interventions, preventions, and support targeted at Tier 1 including whole school (i.e., PBIS); classrooms (i.e., Second Step, Child Protection Unit, Bullying Prevention Unit); building staff (i.e., professional development on trauma sensitive practices).
  • Supports interventions at Tier 2 for small group work (i.e., SAI's, Ropes Activities, Zones of Regulation). Individual student support which does not require active parental consent (CICO, lunch bunch, de-escalation conversations, supportive relationships, data chats, student book clubs).
  • Models and supports research-based interventions and support relating to trauma sensitive practices for staff, students, and families.
  • Complies with health confidentiality standards in accordance with HIPPA and FERPA.
  • Participates in school/district work teams to define and supports trauma sensitive policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Works proactively and collaboratively with principals, school staff and other administrators regarding the provision of services.
  • Travels to various locations, as needed.
  • Actively supports the MPS Strategic Plan.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

Salary range: $60,987.04 - 114,217.31 (1D - 200-day calendar)

Placement on the salary schedule is based on years of fully licensed teaching/pupil services experience in a k-12 setting and education beyond a bachelor's degree.
