Job Summary

Milwaukee Public Schools seeks exceptional Instructional Coach: Program Support Teacher Visual Impairment candidates who are highly qualified and knowledgeable to join our community of teachers, learners, and leaders.

This teacher position will provide training and support for district personnel on the development, implementation, and monitoring of programming for students in the district's Visual Impartment Programs. Responsibilities will include providing professional development and consulting services to school personnel in a variety of areas such as evaluation, effective programming and instruction, use of formal and informal assessments, data analysis, and inclusive practices.

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

  • The position requires a current five-year or lifetime license in (list applicable DPI licenses).
    • License(s): CD #1810 or LD #1811 or ED #1830 or Cross Categorical #1801 or Bilingual K-12 with special education license.
  • Three years of fully-licensed teaching experience in the area of special education is required.

Responsibilities

Core Competencies / Essential Functions:

  • Assists the special education and regular education teaching staff in the evaluation and instructional planning for children with suspected and identified special education needs.
  • Assists the special education and regular education teachers in providing quality and comprehensive programming for children with special education needs including but not limited:
    • Consultation and support to staff in the areas of identifying and understanding students with disabilities.
    • Consultations and support to staff in the area of inclusive practices; and
    • Dissemination and explanation of professional information to school staff.
  • Assists special education and regular education teachers in the effective use of assessment data to ensure the academic, behavioral, and socio-emotional growth of students.
  • Participates in the development and enhancement of a district-wide culture that promotes professional growth and student learning.
  • Interprets specific eye conditions and the results of functional vision assessments.
  • Assists regular education teachers in understanding the needs and learning characteristics of students with visual impairments.
  • Assists in making environmental adjustments in the school.
  • Provides assistance to school personnel regarding curriculum and activities of the classroom that, as a direct result of the student's visual impairment, require adaptation or reinforcement for the student.
  • Obtains large print or Braille textbooks.
  • Provides low vision aides and instruct in skills for use.
  • Instructs in visual skills.
  • Shares responsibility for development and implementation of the IEP, ongoing assessment, and program planning.
  • Shares resources and educational information with parents concerning students with a visual impairment.
  • Maintains contact with other district and agency personnel, such as transcribers, readers, counselors, O&M specialists, career/vocational education staff and rehabilitation counselors when needed.
  • Actively supports the MPS Strategic Plan.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

This position is on the 2F - 200-day calendar.
