Duties & Responsibilities |
- The Senior Scientist/Lab Manager will support the Department of Surgery, Division of Vascular Surgery by overseeing the lab and research initiatives using the knowledge of Cardiovascular Medicine/Surgery & Neurology; Extracranial and Intracranial Carotid Atheroscleric Desease, Cognitive Impairment, & Dementia; Clinical & Biomedical Research, Data Management/Analysis, & Manuscript Writing; and Oversight of Laboratory Personnel & Ensuring Adequate/Safe use of Current Laborary Techniques.
- Will hire, direct and develop staff, as well as manage performance, recognize, and reward employees using the knowledge of Cardiovascular Medicine/Surgery & Neurology; Extracranial and Intracranial Carotid Atheroscleric Desease, Cognitive Impairment, & Dementia; Clinical & Biomedical Research, Data Management/Analysis, & Manuscript Writing; and Oversight of Laboratory Personnel & Ensuring Adequate/Safe use of Current Laborary Techniques.
- Oversight of laboratory personnel and ensuring use of current laboratory techniques, procedures, and equipment operations are responsibilities of this position using the knowledge of Cardiovascular Medicine/Surgery & Neurology; Extracranial and Intracranial Carotid Atheroscleric Desease, Cognitive Impairment, & Dementia; Clinical & Biomedical Research, Data Management/Analysis, & Manuscript Writing; and Oversight of Laboratory Personnel & Ensuring Adequate/Safe use of Current Laborary Techniques.
- Develop and review the Vascular Surgery strategic and operational plans, and assure proper resources to staffing using the knowledge of Cardiovascular Medicine/Surgery & Neurology; Extracranial and Intracranial Carotid Atheroscleric Desease, Cognitive Impairment, & Dementia; Clinical & Biomedical Research, Data Management/Analysis, & Manuscript Writing; and Oversight of Laboratory Personnel & Ensuring Adequate/Safe use of Current Laborary Techniques.
- Manage work of those recruiting subjects, ensuring eligibility, and understanding of clinical study (i.e. screening, interviewing, and explaining informed consent) using the knowledge of Cardiovascular Medicine/Surgery & Neurology; Extracranial and Intracranial Carotid Atheroscleric Desease, Cognitive Impairment, & Dementia; Clinical & Biomedical Research, Data Management/Analysis, & Manuscript Writing; and Oversight of Laboratory Personnel & Ensuring Adequate/Safe use of Current Laborary Techniques.
- Accountable for developing and managing research lab policies, administrative operating procedures, and work of laboratory personnel using the knowledge of Cardiovascular Medicine/Surgery & Neurology; Extracranial and Intracranial Carotid Atheroscleric Desease, Cognitive Impairment, & Dementia; Clinical & Biomedical Research, Data Management/Analysis, & Manuscript Writing; and Oversight of Laboratory Personnel & Ensuring Adequate/Safe use of Current Laborary Techniques.
- Oversee the collection, process, and storage of clinical research data using the knowledge of Cardiovascular Medicine/Surgery & Neurology; Extracranial and Intracranial Carotid Atheroscleric Desease, Cognitive Impairment, & Dementia; Clinical & Biomedical Research, Data Management/Analysis, & Manuscript Writing; and Oversight of Laboratory Personnel & Ensuring Adequate/Safe use of Current Laborary Techniques.
- Analyze and maintain database for tracking subjects and specimens using the knowledge of Cardiovascular Medicine/Surgery & Neurology; Extracranial and Intracranial Carotid Atheroscleric Desease, Cognitive Impairment, & Dementia; Clinical & Biomedical Research, Data Management/Analysis, & Manuscript Writing; and Oversight of Laboratory Personnel & Ensuring Adequate/Safe use of Current Laborary Techniques.
- Manage quality control and safety programs to ensure high quality diagnostic testing and all laboratory activities comply with regulatory aspects of research programs using the knowledge of Cardiovascular Medicine/Surgery & Neurology; Extracranial and Intracranial Carotid Atheroscleric Desease, Cognitive Impairment, & Dementia; Clinical & Biomedical Research, Data Management/Analysis, & Manuscript Writing; and Oversight of Laboratory Personnel & Ensuring Adequate/Safe use of Current Laborary Techniques.
- Responsible for data analysis, writing manuscripts, and preparing grant proposals using the knowledge of Cardiovascular Medicine/Surgery & Neurology; Extracranial and Intracranial Carotid Atheroscleric Desease, Cognitive Impairment, & Dementia; Clinical & Biomedical Research, Data Management/Analysis, & Manuscript Writing; and Oversight of Laboratory Personnel & Ensuring Adequate/Safe use of Current Laborary Techniques.
- Work with UAHS Office of Research Administration and other central support units in the preparation of proposal budgets, subcontracts, and identifying institutional resources using the knowledge of Cardiovascular Medicine/Surgery & Neurology; Extracranial and Intracranial Carotid Atheroscleric Desease, Cognitive Impairment, & Dementia; Clinical & Biomedical Research, Data Management/Analysis, & Manuscript Writing; and Oversight of Laboratory Personnel & Ensuring Adequate/Safe use of Current Laborary Techniques.
- Manages purchasing, maintenance, and handling of lab equipment and supplies in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations using the knowledge of Cardiovascular Medicine/Surgery & Neurology; Extracranial and Intracranial Carotid Atheroscleric Desease, Cognitive Impairment, & Dementia; Clinical & Biomedical Research, Data Management/Analysis, & Manuscript Writing; and Oversight of Laboratory Personnel & Ensuring Adequate/Safe use of Current Laborary Techniques.
- Responsible for analyzing operational costs and leading
efficiency improvements using the knowledge of Cardiovascular Medicine/Surgery & Neurology; Extracranial and Intracranial Carotid Atheroscleric Desease, Cognitive Impairment, & Dementia; Clinical & Biomedical Research, Data Management/Analysis, & Manuscript Writing; and Oversight of Laboratory Personnel & Ensuring Adequate/Safe use of Current Laborary Techniques.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- 3 years of related work experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience required.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree in Research, Science, Engineering, or Medicine or foreign equivalent.
- Three (3) years of experience as a Research Coordinator, Research Specialist, Research Fellow, Medical Instructor, or Physician.
