The Tardiff Laboratory in the Department of Biomedical Engineering is accepting applications for a Research Specialist (Research Technician II). The Research Specialist will be responsible for maintaining mouse colonies, genotyping, performing basic molecular biology and protein analysis including western blotting, protein expression, and protein purification, etc. The Research Specialist will have some lab management responsibilities that include working closely with the Principal Investigator. | Duties & Responsibilities |
- Perform administrative functions such as filing, ordering supplies, maintaining inventory, maintaining databases (for example: mouse colony, chemicals, MSDS, training records, and interface with RLSS).
- Perform animal husbandry responsibilities (mice only), including colony maintenance, genotyping of mice, and arranging mouse shipments.
- Help new lab members get started by ensuring they complete the correct online, and in-person training, and any needed lab tests.
- Show students and staff how to use lab equipment and do technical tasks.
- Prepare buffers and reagents. Cannulation and ex vivo "hanging" of mouse hearts for adult myocyte isolation.
- Perform basic molecular biology, western blotting, and protein purification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to communicate well with others.
- Ability to share knowledge and assist new members of the lab with basic skills.
- Ability to keep a neat and detailed laboratory notebook.

| Minimum Qualifications |
- High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency required.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

| Preferred Qualifications |
- Prior experience with handling and maintaining mouse breeding colonies, including transgenic mice and inducible mouse models.
