National Grid is hiring a Director of US Community Engagement & Investment. This is a hybrid opportunity that can be based out of Brooklyn, Syracuse, Albany, NY or Waltham and Boston, MA.

Job Purpose

The Director of US Community Engagement and Investment will lead the development and execution of strategies to support communities through the clean energy transition. This role focuses on building strong relationships with community stakeholders, leveraging volunteerism, philanthropy, and community-based programs that address the challenges and opportunities presented by the shift to clean energy. This includes establishing, and managing, a crisis response fund and ensuring volunteerism targets are reached in New York and Massachusetts.

Key Responsibilities

* Establish and implement programs to help low-income communities with a range of energy affordability measures across our service areas while elevating community understanding of energy literacy and energy education.
* Develop a strategy to strengthen partnerships and grant-making that directly supports our communities with energy affordability.
* Working alongside Corporate Affairs and business units, build a robust stakeholder engagement strategy to build advocacy and develop relationships with community leaders to advance collaborations focusing on energy literacy and energy affordability
* Provide timely support to communities affected by crises.
* Work with business units to collaborate on relevant community engagement priorities
* Support and co-construct with business units a strategy to achieve 500,000 volunteer hours by 2030 in the UK and US.
* Improve how we measure the impact of our programs to ensure they are effective and create social value

Key Accountabilities

* Strategy Development and Execution: Develop and implement a comprehensive community engagement and investment strategy aligned with the company's clean energy transition goals, focusing on maximizing positive community impact and addressing potential challenges. This includes setting measurable goals and tracking progress.
* Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with key community stakeholders, including community-based organizations, local leaders, residents, and advocacy groups, to understand their needs and priorities related to the energy transition. Facilitate ongoing dialogue and collaboration.
* Program Design and Management: Design, implement, and manage community-based programs that address the specific needs of communities during the clean energy transition. This may include workforce development programs, energy efficiency initiatives, community solar projects, and other related programs. Ensure programs are effectively implemented, evaluated, and aligned with community needs.
* Corporate Volunteerism: Support development and management of corporate volunteer programs that engage employees in supporting community-based initiatives related to the clean energy transition. Promote employee participation and ensure volunteer efforts are impactful and aligned with community needs.
* Crisis Response: Support the company's response to energy-related crises in communities, coordinating philanthropic resources and support to ensure affected communities receive timely and effective assistance. Develop and maintain social impact crisis response plans and protocols.
* Grantmaking and Investment: Manage the company's community investment portfolio related to the clean energy transition, including grantmaking and other forms of financial support to community-based organizations and initiatives. Ensure investments are strategically aligned with community needs and company goals.
* Budget Management: Assist in the development and management of the budget for community engagement and investment activities, ensuring resources are allocated effectively and efficiently.
* Reporting and Communication: Regularly report on the progress and impact of community engagement and investment activities to internal and external stakeholders. Communicate effectively about the company's commitment to supporting communities through the clean energy transition.
* Team Leadership: Lead and manage a team of community engagement professionals, providing coaching, development, and mentorship to ensure high performance and achievement of strategic objectives.
* External Partnerships: Develop and maintain partnerships with other organizations, including government agencies, non-profits, and industry partners, to leverage resources and maximize the impact of community engagement and investment efforts..

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree: A bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant field
  • Master's Degree (Preferred): A master's degree in a related field or relevant certifications that demonstrate advanced knowledge and expertise in areas like community development, nonprofit leadership, or community engagement
  • Extensive Experience: A minimum of 10years of progressive experience in community engagement, stakeholder management, program development, and preferably within a STEM field, or a related area.
  • Non-Profit/CSR Experience: Experience working with non-profit organizations, foundations, or in corporate social responsibility (CSR) roles is highly desirable. This includes understanding grantmaking processes, community partnerships, and social impact measurement.
  • Passion for Clean Energy and Community: A genuine commitment to the clean energy transition and a passion for working with communities is essential.
  • Strong Network: Established relationships with community stakeholders, industry leaders, and/or relevant organizations in the clean energy space are highly beneficial.

Salary

Brooklyn: $196k - $230k a year

Waltham: $182k - $214k a year

Syracuse/Albany/Buffalo: $162k - $191k a year

This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
