Department Summary
The Cardiac Catheterization (Cath) Lab at the Benderson Family Heart Center at Boston Children's Hospital is seeking a Clinical Research Specialist I (CRS) to coordinate clinical research studies. Under the direction of the Cath Lab Manager, the CRS will coordinate the collection, maintenance and retrieval of study data and implement systems and procedures to ensure accuracy, consistency, and conformance with protocol requirements. Act as a resource to clinical research staff to ensure standards for data management and quality assurance are adhered to in each study.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinates daily operations of a studies. Develops, implements, and documents systems and procedures to meet study goals and protocol requirements. Plans and prioritizes work of research team to meet divisional research goals. Acts as a resource to clinical research staff to ensure standards for data management and quality assurance are adhered to in each study.
  • Monitors start-up and operations of research studies. Works with site personnel and study sponsors to develop and maintain systems for data collection and preparation of study budgets and contracts.
  • Prepares, monitors and justifies project budgets and contracts according to hospital and funding agency specifications. Monitors expenses and identifies and resolves errors or discrepancies. Maintains financial records and prepares related reports.
  • Communicates project policies and procedures to research team, study sponsors, and contract and ancillary personnel at local study sites. Monitors and reviews data collection and computer entry, clinical testing, patient confidentiality and related activities to ensure compliance and consistency of application.
  • Serves as liaison between BCH research team, local study sites, and study sponsors regarding study procedures and operations and protocol interpretation. Ensures study operations are consistent with overall study requirements for database maintenance, coding, completion and computer input of study forms, deadlines and other related issues. Trains local study personnel in use of computer and study systems.
  • Oversees collection, coding and computer entry of study data. Conducts periodic testing of data validity, identifies and resolves any errors or discrepancies.
  • Oversees development of computer applications and systems to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of study operations and data management, such as patient appointment scheduling, completion and tracking of study data and forms, and invoicing and payments to study funds.
  • Assists Principal Investigators in preparing new applications for research funding and in developing, implementing, and managing ancillary study grants/funds and contracts.

Minimum Qualifications
Education

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum three years of relevant work experience or Masters of Science and one year of relevant work experience.

Experience

  • Requires the analytical skills to gather and interpret data in which the information or problems are moderately complex to complex.
  • Requires well-developed communication skills in order to provide critical information to patients, effectively deal with conflicting views or issues, and the ability to mediate fair solutions.
  • Must have advanced writing and analytical skills.
  • Must have computer skills, including the use of the Microsoft Office Suite and working knowledge of electronic health record platforms and commercial electronic data capture applications.
