Job Description

Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor of Parks, Recreation, Sport and Tourism in the School of Natural Resources, College of Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources at the University of Missouri (MU). Salary will be commensurate with experience. This is a 9-month ranked, non-tenure track academic appointment.

Start date: 1/1/2026 or as negotiated.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses related to Parks, Recreation, Sport, and Tourism (PRST). Primary responsibilities will include organizing and teaching four courses per semester in both spring and fall semesters (a total of 8 courses per year). The successful candidate will teach courses such as Sport Tourism, Sport Management, Global Sport Environments, Business of Sport and Recreation, Sport and Recreation Marketing, Trends in Sport and Recreation, along with advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. There will also be an opportunity to create and teach courses related to other sport tourism topics of interest. This position will strengthen the education program by teaching across the PRST degree program to engage students in understanding the fields of sport management and tourism development more deeply. Additional responsibilities include service on the School of Natural Resources committees or assisting with other activities as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Sport Management or Tourism Management or a closely related discipline by time of appointment.

Candidates will be evaluated on: Experience in teaching (residential and/or online), and/or management experience in the parks, recreation, sport, and tourism industry. The area of expertise should complement existing institutional strengths in parks, recreation, sport, and tourism. Candidates should demonstrate outstanding teaching credentials, strong interpersonal communication skills, a collaborative approach to program development and classroom instruction. Preferred qualifications include an impactful teaching record, hands-on learning experiences, experience in current education technologies, and/or connections to the Parks, Recreation, Sport, and Tourism industries.
