Plant Manager: Columbus and Plain City Oregon

Division: Bostik - Industrial Adhesives : Durable Goods (DG); Advanced Packaging and Converting (AP&C); and Hygiene, Paper & Cardboard (HP&C)

Responsibility:

  • Provide the leadership, direction, and management for all aspects of the plant's operation.
  • 7 Direct reports include a Planning & Warehouse Manager, QEHS Manager, Process Engineer, two Production Supervisors, and two maintenance technicians.
  • Responsible for the safe operation of the plant and compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Responsible for meeting site and business Key Performance Indicators.

Activities (Task, Resource, Outcome):

    • Develop, implement and sustain a continuously improving EHS Program to achieve the ultimate goal of zero safety or environmental incidents while maintaining full compliance with EHS requirements.
    • Practice Safe work habits in accordance with OSHA, EPA guidelines, and Arkema specific EHS expectations.
    • Drive best in class 5S and housekeeping expectations.
    • Lead site adherence to the Quality Management System and reduction in the cost of poor quality.
    • Coordinate with Industrial Director and BU Directors to create the plant's vision and growth strategies. Execute the business and operations plans to achieve revenue, profit, and performance targets.
    • Drive culture of root cause analysis using problem solving tools to minimize repeat issues.
    • Work closely with Customer Service, Product Line management and Sales to achieve the best On- Time Delivery results while meeting the financial and inventory goals of the plant.
    • Achieve the Manufacturing Expense Budget for the plant.
    • Lead culture of continuous improvement in operation excellence. Identify and implement projects to generate cost savings (fixed costs, variable costs, cost of poor quality).
    • Utilize lean six sigma tools, OEE (overall equipment efficiency), and VSM (value stream mapping) to drive productivity improvements at the sites.
    • Ensure small capex projects are led and executed by the plant team and participate in large capex projects as defined by the AGATE process.
    • Communicate plant needs, roadblocks, successes to plant, business team and executive team.
    • Foster an environment of continuous improvement where all associates are involved in the improvement process and there is constant interaction with plant leadership and associates on the floor.
    • Coordinate with BU Recipe Industrialization Leader and R&D teams to support new product introduction projects and product improvements.
    • Prioritize plant issues based on operational and business priorities; provide clear direction to the team.
  • Deliver plant goals through building collaborative and dynamic plant culture through engagement, team building and accountability across disciplines. Remove barriers and siloed thinking.

Context in Environment:

  • A fast paced, visible environment where you are involved in a wide variety of functions and activities.
  • You will participate in activities within the plant and also outside the plant.
  • Heavy use of computer software, both PC based and enterprise system, combined with frequent interpersonal communication.
  • Expect that at least 25% of your time will be spent on the shop floor working with the site leadership team, supervisors and operators. Lead through the plant leadership team, but set the example on the floor.

Ability to travel up intermittently, up to 5-15% travel, if needed for business meetings and/or other duties.

Qualifications/Experience Required:

  • BS in Chemical Engineering or related discipline
  • Minimum 10 years experience in Project Management, Process Engineering , HES, or other operations leadership role.
  • Preferred 2+ years as a Production/Operations supervisor at a comparable or larger batch chemical manufacturing site.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build and lead teams. Demonstrated ability to lead change.
  • Experience with Lean/Six Sigma manufacturing and related continuous improvement
  • Ability to manage competing priorities
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
