Overview

The FIRST Robotics Programs Outreach Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting Clarkson University's leadership of K-12 robotics initiatives across northern NY. This includes serving as the co-PDP (Program Delivery Partner) for the NY-Potsdam region FIRST LEGO League Explore and Challenge, as well as coordination and mentorship for 14 BOCES-sponsored FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) teams and one FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team. The coordinator works closely with the Director of K-12 Robotics Outreach and serves as a key liaison to teams, volunteers, coaches, and community partners. This role supports both strategic planning and day-to-day operations to expand equitable access to high-quality STEM education through FIRST.



Responsibilities

Program Delivery & Event Coordination
* Assist in planning and executing robotics outreach events and competitions (FLL Explore, FLL Challenge, FTC, and FRC) that create fun, inclusive, and engaging STEM learning experiences.
* Co-manage the delivery of FIRST LEGO League programs for the NY-Potsdam region, including regional qualifiers and expos.
* Create promotional materials (flyers, presentations, social media posts) to support event visibility and recruitment.
* Coordinate event logistics, including venue setup, equipment organization, registration, and on-site troubleshooting.

Team, Coach, and Volunteer Support
* Communicate regularly with coaches, teams, and volunteers to share resources and updates, answer questions, and ensure a positive experience.
* Assist in recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers for all levels of FIRST programming.

* Support team mentorship efforts, including helping new and veteran teams access supplies, navigate FIRST platforms, and build engineering/programming capacity.
* Serve as a point of contact for the FTC and FRC teams' needs throughout the season.

Community Engagement & Outreach
* Build and maintain strong relationships with schools, educators, BOCES representatives, community organizations, and sponsors.
* Support strategic outreach to grow participation in FIRST programs, especially in rural and underrepresented communities.
* Represent Clarkson STEM Ed Robotics Outreach at community events, open houses, and educational fairs.

Budgeting and Administration
* Assist in budget planning and management for events and programs.
* Maintain documentation and reports to support financial transparency and sponsor reporting.
* Track program participation metrics and assist with grant reporting as needed.



Qualifications

* A high school diploma or equivalent is required; some postsecondary coursework in education, engineering, or a related field is preferred.
* Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
* 5+ years of experience with FIRST Robotics programs (i.e., FLL, FTC, FRC).
* Experience working with youth or in K-12 educational settings.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Canva, and related applications.
