The Director, Internal Communications, is responsible for developing, executing and measuring the company-wide internal communication strategy in partnership with the Director of Communications. This role will ensure that key messages about company strategy, including our business and commercial strategy, and policy are effectively delivered and understood across the company, and foster a strong organizational culture and enhance team member engagement. This work will all be aligned with, and complementary to, the enterprise-wide CBIZ marketing communications campaign and go-to-market strategy.
This role requires collaboration with executive and senior leadership, business units, HR, and other functions to align internal communications with the organization's mission, vision, values and strategic goals.
The individual in this role reports to the Director of Communications.
Key Responsibilities:
*Partner with Director of Communications to develop and implement an internal communication strategy that supports organizational goals and drives a growth and sales culture
*Serve as a thought partner for the C-suite and executive team on complex internal communications initiatives - strategy and execution - and to craft and deliver impactful messages to team members, both companywide and division/industry/region-specific
*Serve as the primary communications partner for the Chief Human Resources Officer and the HR Executive Team on important issues
*Act as a trusted advisor to leadership on internal communication best practices
*Ensure consistent messaging across all internal channels and align them with external messaging
*Ensure clear communication during organizational changes to demonstrate transparency and support for team members and inspire buy-in
*Partner with Director of Communications and Director, External Communications to develop strategy and execution for positioning executives internally
*Create engaging content, including town hall scripts, intranet updates, announcements, presentations, and emails
*Manage and maintain internal communication platforms (e.g., intranet, email systems, collaboration tools)
*Oversee the development and activation of internal campaigns, visuals, and multimedia content to support communication goals
*Establish and maintain relationships with key internal stakeholders to advance communications initiatives
*Support cross-departmental communication initiatives, ensuring clarity and alignment
*Determine how to utilize various internal communications channels most effectively
*Drive initiatives that promote organizational values and enhance team member engagement
*Collect and analyze team member feedback to improve communication effectiveness
*Develop and execute communication plans for crisis situations or significant organizational changes
*Serve as the point of contact for internal crisis communications, providing timely and accurate information
*Measure the effectiveness of communication strategies and adjust as needed
*Perform all other duties as assigned
*Located in our Cleveland, OH headquarters
Preferred Qualifications:
*Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field
*7-10+ years of experience in internal communications, corporate communications or a similar role
*Strong writing, editing, and presentation skills with acute attention to detail
*Effective problem-solving skills and ability to handle complex situations
*Proven experience managing multiple communication channels and tools (e.g., intranets, newsletters, collaboration software)
*Demonstrated ability to manage projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
*Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization
Minimum Qualifications Required:
* Bachelor's degree required
* Graduate or specialty degree preferred
* 8 years experience
* 6 years supervisory experience (if applicable)
* Ability to manage deadlines, work on multiple assignments and prioritize each assignment as necessary
* Proficient use of applicable technology
* Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing throughout all levels of the organization, both internally and externally
