Job Title: Network Administrator Location: On-site across 14 locations in Connecticut Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire (Opportunity to go Full-Time) Industry: Government / Public Sector Travel: Required (within CT) About the Role: A client of TEKsystems is seeking a skilled and motivated Network Administrator to join its Network Engineering team. This is a hands-on role focused on maintaining, upgrading, and optimizing network infrastructure across multiple sites. You'll play a key role in ensuring secure, reliable connectivity and supporting the modernization of critical IT systems. Key Responsibilities: * Configure and maintain Cisco routers, switches, and firewalls. * Support network segmentation and transitions across 14 locations. * Maintain device connectivity and enforce security standards (PCI familiarity a plus). * Clean and organize network closets and manage IP subnetting (50 IP subnets). * Provide Tier III support and troubleshoot complex network issues. * Monitor network performance and recommend improvements. * Assist with disaster recovery planning and testing. * Mentor junior engineers and serve as a technical lead on projects. * Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders. Must-Have Skills: * Strong hands-on experience with Cisco networking equipment. * Working knowledge of Cisco IOS and CCNA certification (or equivalent experience). * Experience with network security standards and protocols. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Ability to explain technical concepts in simple, clear terms ("Fisher-Price" style). Nice-to-Have Skills: * Experience with PCI compliance and POS systems. * Familiarity with tools like SolarWinds, Wireshark, Cisco Works, Websense. * Knowledge of enterprise-level services: DNS, DHCP, VPN, NAC, TACACS+, IPS/IDS. * Experience with Avaya VoIP systems and A5 firewalls. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
