General Purpose of Job: To provide a safe, secure and orderly environment so that quality, compassionate, accessible healthcare services can be provided without undue fear for personal safety and the safety of property. This position is responsible for investigating thefts, fraud, assaults, and other criminal activity to find and implicate perpetrators. Investigators will also investigate workplace violence and workplace violations within the Sparrow Health System. The Investigator will collect evidence, conduct interviews, find witnesses, write investigative reports, and testify in court. This position is Monday through Friday with flexible hours. Essential Duties: This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.
- Perform confidential analytical work in the review, examination and compilation of criminal activity and Public Safety Report of Investigations. Will write and document comprehensive investigative reports utilizing any and all tools necessary.
- Investigate criminal activity and complaints on Sparrow property such as thefts, missing personal property, assaults/ assault and battery, harassment, verbal abuse, drug diversion, fraud, CSC, vehicle theft, etc.
- Interview suspects, witnesses, and victims to ascertain alibis, clues, time frames all elements of a crime.
- Follow up on report of investigations including all reports related to warrant requests.
- Create clearly written and effective reports and bulletins and other analytical products to be used for Administrative briefings and court.
- Prepare a variety of reports including, Reports of Investigation, Violent Incident, for legal/administrative review and Safety Committee statistical information.
- Support Human Resources, Risk Management Legal, and other Department Leaders in workplace related investigations.
- Maintain an in-depth knowledge of federal and state statutes along with Sparrow's policies and procedures.
- Utilize and demonstrate competency in the use of various security technologies and software applications (CCTV, IP camera technology, Alarm Systems, Access Control Systems, ID Badging, Elevator Monitoring Systems, Intercom Systems, Radios and Paging Systems)
- Compile IP video footage and body camera footage of all incidents related to investigations. Create case files in evidence.com of all related body camera footage for each incident.
- Track and collect data on all Sparrow Public Safety report of incidents and prepare monthly reports for Sparrow Public Safety Leadership.
- Develop statistical data resources to assist in proactive and targeted investigations, preventative enforcement theft patterns, violence trends, and overall criminal activity.
- Create computer generated charts, graphs, and tables to demonstrate relationships between Sparrow events and surrounding area events.
- Armed response in an active violent incident where a dangerous weapon is reported to be involved.

Work Experience |
* Two years criminal investigation experience while meeting education criteria. * Two years' experience in the identification of crime trends and patterns. |
Education |
* Bachelors degree from an accredited college in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Public Safety or related degree with 4 years' experience in a related field. OR * Associates degree from an accredited college in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Public Safety or related degree with 6 years of experience in a related field. Licenses * Must complete Sparrow Public Safety Firearms program and certify in MCOLES pistol qualification course. * Must complete REID Certification. * Must complete LEIN training within 6 months of hire. * Must complete Security Awareness Training 1, 2, 3a, 3b. * Must hold a valid CPL or Retired Law enforcement equivalent. * Complete the Security Police Officer PA 330 Act academy. |
Specialized Knowledge and Skills |
* Ability to efficiently work with multiple different computer programs and proficient with Microsoft Office Suite applications. * Knowledge of crime classifications and demonstrated ability to work with analytical products that contribute to awareness of crime problems and identify trending problems. * Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills. * Demonstrates professionalism and a positive attitude. * Strong organizational and time management skills. Has the ability to work effectively and efficiently under tight deadlines. * Self-directed and able to work independently as well as with a team. * Ability to make quality, independent decisions as well as being able to be analytical with strong problem solving skills. * Trustworthy - Ability to maintain the strictest levels of confidentiality. * Demonstrates ability to use a computer and multiple software programs including security technology which is an essential role of this position. * Training in interviewing and interrogations * Crisis intervention and verbal de-escalation skills. * Demonstrates ability in defensive tactics and handcuffing. * Must be able to complete federal background and fingerprint check for access to Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS). This will occur not more than every 5 years or as directed by the department. |
