Position Summary:

The Director of Sustainability and Recycling, reporting into the Procurement organization, is responsible for driving the strategic direction of Nestle's sustainable sourcing and recycling programs. This includes overseeing climate/regenerative agriculture, human rights, animal welfare, and recycling/circularity sourcing strategies. The Leader will manage a team of professionals and collaborate with Procurement Business Partners, cross-functional leads, external stakeholders, and upstream suppliers to deliver solutions for business and environmental and social governance (ESG) commitments in packaging sustainability and recycling. Key responsibilities include leadership, coaching, communication, strategy development and execution, and compliance management.

This position will work a hybrid schedule - 3 days in the office, 2 days from home. Candidates must currently be located in the Greater Cleveland (Solon) or Arlington area or be willing to relocate.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the strategic direction of Nestle's sustainable sourcing and recycling programs, including climate / regenerative agriculture, human rights, animal welfare, and recycling / circularity sourcing strategies
  • Leads an expert team of professionals to deliver solutions for business and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) commitments in packaging sustainability and recycling
  • Builds and maintains strong working relationships with Procurement Business Partners, cross-functional leads, external stakeholders, and upstream suppliers for Nestle Zone North America's climate strategy
  • Leadership, coaching, communication, strategy development and execution, and compliance management are critical to role
  • Develop and lead strategic direction for Zone North America's climate and regenerative agriculture strategy end-to-end, including regular communications around sustainable sourcing and sustainability activities between internal partners and external organizations
  • Leads negotiations and interactions with suppliers and partners to drive action in Nestle's supply chains, in collaboration with Technical Application Group (TAG), NesTrade, Procurement Specialist, and Sustainability teams, to deliver on sustainable sourcing strategies and commitments
  • Nestle 7-Step Strategic Sourcing Process (7SSS) Implementation (Self and Team)
    • Expertise and influence sustainability & recycling objectives, issues, market analysis, etc. and represent them to Category Teams to shape planning and execution
    • Advise on strategies to secure innovative materials and processes to meet business goals and objectives
    • Establish and ensure the achievement of the strategic directions, objectives and critical metrics across ESG areas
    • Lead change management activities that support the sourcing strategy and facilitate execution to drive compliance and commitments on sustainability
  • Management of Managers / Category Management Specialists
    • Talent and Performance Management System Development (Personal Development Guide, Performance Evaluation, Engagement Check-in and 360 Assessments)
    • Establish meaningful key team objectives in support of Nestle cascading measures
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Knowledge of sustainable sourcing strategies, food-agri supply system dynamics, and strong background in ESG governance required
  • Minimum 12 years' experience in recycling / sustainability topics
  • Demonstrated successful management of team of professionals
  • Candidate must be a demonstrated quick study, proven ability to manage change, ability to work across boundaries, strong decision making
  • Excellent communicator, demonstrated skills in collaboration and team leadership
  • Proven ability to gather business material and service requirements and translate into strategies and plans
  • Demonstrated strong project management skills
  • Analyze and present findings in a clear and cohesive manner
  • Ability to work independently to identify and research relevant market, industry, and supplier information
  • Capable of navigating through ambiguous situations and managing internal stakeholders as well as external vendor and partner relationships
  • Ability to collaborate and support multiple sourcing initiatives
  • Required proficiency in Microsoft Suite products, including but not limited to, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
