Overview

The Process Engineer will support documentation, inspection planning, and quality verification activities for Edmund Optics' advanced manufacturing and custom product lines. This role will assume select responsibilities currently held by the Compliance team, including ownership of drawing management and ballooning processes. The Process Engineer will collaborate with Quality, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams to ensure inspection readiness, documentation accuracy, and product compliance.



Responsibilities

    Manage and maintain ballooned drawings and drawing revision control for custom products
  • Generate and review inspection plans for new and modified parts, ensuring alignment with drawing requirements and customer specifications
  • Support the Quality Control team by developing inspection methods and verification strategies for advanced manufacturing parts
  • Ensure proper documentation flow-downs are established and maintained for custom orders, including tolerances, inspection levels, and revision histories
  • Collaborate with Compliance, Engineering, and Quality teams to transfer ownership of drawing-based processes into Quality
  • Support the development of standard work for ballooning, inspection plan creation, and data validation
  • Review customer requirements and ensure documentation and inspection plans comply with applicable standards (e.g., ISO 10110, ANSI, MIL specs)
  • Conduct root cause analysis and support corrective actions related to documentation and inspection discrepancies
  • Train stakeholders on new drawing and inspection planning processes as part of the transition from Compliance
  • Participate in internal and cross-functional meetings to improve inspection and quality documentation processes
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations.

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience with manufacturing drawings and documentation control
  • Familiarity with ballooning practices, inspection planning, and quality documentation
  • Understanding of GD&T and optical/mechanical print standards preferred
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments
  • Experience using Microsoft Office and relevant quality systems (e.g., Net-Inspect, SAP, Excel-based inspection plans)
  • US Citizenship or permanent residency required

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, or related technical discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum 2 years of experience in quality, process engineering, manufacturing, or documentation control in a technical environment.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and operate office equipment such as a copier; ability to see details at a close range; ability to sit at desk or PC for long periods of time; ability to travel.
