Global Director, EHS

The Global Director of Environmental, Health, and Safety has an overall responsibility to lead the strategic direction, development, and implementation of our EHS policies, procedures and programs across all global operations. This critical leadership role will ensure compliance, risk mitigation, and the promotion of a strong EHS culture across our manufacturing sites and corporate functions.

As a member of the global operations leadership team, this position will drive excellence in health, safety, and environmental performance, aligning EHS goals with business objectives while fostering a proactive, people-first safety culture.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Program Oversight

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive global EHS strategy aligned with corporate objectives and operational needs.
  • Lead the global EHS function, providing direction and oversight to EHS teams across all facilities.
  • Champion a zero-incident safety culture and environmental stewardship throughout the organization.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure company-wide compliance with international, national, and local EHS regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, DHS, ISO, etc.).
  • Develop, maintain, and ensure compliance with global EHS policies, procedures, and applicable regulations across all facilities and regions.
  • Lead global risk assessment processes, hazard identification, and incident investigations with root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Serve as the primary contact for global regulatory bodies and lead response to inspections or audits.

Performance Monitoring & Continuous Improvement

  • Define, track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) for EHS and sustainability performance.
  • Develop and execute global audit and inspection programs; ensure follow-up and accountability for corrective actions.
  • Continuously improve EHS systems, tools, and practices using Lean or Six Sigma principles.

Training, Communication & Culture

  • Oversee the development and delivery of EHS training programs for all levels of the organization.
  • Promote an engaged, safety-first culture through leadership visibility, communications campaigns, and employee involvement programs.
  • Guide and mentor EHS professionals and cross-functional leaders in best practices.

Sustainability & Environmental Stewardship

  • Provide leadership and guidance for product stewardship activities (i.e. energy efficiency, waste reduction, emissions reporting, environmental impact reduction, etc.).
  • Drive integration of ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) principles into business strategy and reporting.

Budget & Resource Management

  • Manage the global EHS budget and allocate resources efficiently across regions and functions.
  • Select, implement, and maintain EHS technologies and systems (e.g., incident management software, compliance tracking tools).

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Healthy & Safety, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive EHS leadership experience, with at least 5 years in a global manufacturing environment.
  • Deep knowledge of international EHS regulations and standards; OSHA certified.
  • Proven capability leading and managing auditing in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven track record of building and scaling global EHS programs and teams.
  • Strong leadership, communication, project and change management skills.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate across cultures and levels of the organization.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in engineering, business, or related discipline.
  • SAP experience (or comparable ERP knowledge).
  • Experience with Gensuite or similar EHS management system.

Key Relationships:

  • Reports to the Vice President of Global Operations.
  • Global Site EHS Leaders, EHS Generalist, Director Global Continuous Improvement, Global Quality Leader, Operations team, Engineering team.

Travel Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel both domestic and international (10 - 25%)
