Product Specialist - Components, Roofing - Florida

SUMMARY

This position is responsible for growing and developing various Westlake Royal Building Products Roof System Component (RSC) product lines which include Concrete, Clay, Steel and RSC. Responsibilities include ensuring code compliance and acceptance (Building, Hail, Fire, Wind, Energy), sales and customer training, providing guidance and support, and serving as a liaison between the roofing industry (roofer, builder, distributor, architect, etc.) and the full Westlake Royal Roofing Solutions product offerings. Additional responsibilities include internal and external product training and supporting overall business development related product lines. The position will also serve as the industry expert regarding the products and their applications for use. Upon successful execution and development of the products, the role will assist with expanding the RSC portfolio through research and/or development of new products.

This position is home-based, but the candidate must be located in Southern Florida.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Help drive and execute technical functions, code compliance listings, and approvals for various products

  • Work with internal/external departments to set-up technical trainings

  • Develop strategies for growing, developing, and implementing RSC portfolio

  • Provide Technical Support to sales and customers to improve overall success of the product portfolio and implementation of new product additions

    • Safety

      • Review and promote proper use of hand and installation tools

    • Technical Services

      • Provide information and training to internal (Sales) and External (Customers)

      • Assist with strategies for training programs

    • Research and Development

      • Responsible for discovery of improvements to existing product offering within the RSC catalog

      • Responsible for research and data collection of submitted product offerings with Florida Building Code (FBC) and Notice of Acceptance (NOA) with Miami-Dade County

      • Responsible for helping to test various products for compliance with code and real-world environments for WRRS

    • Production/Operations

      • Help to review and assist on how material and profile changes may affect code compliance

      • Support fit and function considerations of current product lines

      • Support to Quality Control division

    • Sales

      • Technical support related to Building, Hail, Fire, Wind, and Energy Code regulations

      • Estimating product list materials (take-offs)

      • Support to architects, engineers, distribution, HOA's, contractors, and homeowners

    • Marketing

      • Technical review of marketing collateral, both digital and print

      • Technical support for Trade Shows

      • Product Installations

      • Support on show floor

      • Assist in strategies for branding and messaging of WRRS product offering

      • Help write technical bulletins

      • Help write installation guides

    • Customer Service

      • Warranty claims review

    • Engineering

      • Support department on development and compliance with current product offering

      • Work with regional customer base (designer, builder, contractor, homeowner, distributors) when needed for technical assistance

      • Represent Westlake Royal Roofing Solutions interests in/at local, state, and national industry organizations (TRIA, MCA, MRA, NRCA, CRRC, RICOWI, etc.)

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Manufacturing Operations, Engineering, or related field; or related work experience will be considered

  • 5 plus years experience in code development, code compliance, product listings, or product development

  • Similar experience in building/roofing products or construction markets preferred

  • Strong computer literacy: AutoCAD, Word, Excel, & PowerPoint

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong problem-solving skills

  • Able to make sound decisions independently

  • Ability to influence cross-functional teams

  • Ability to travel when necessary (+60%)

  • Tactful, diplomatic, empathetic. Knows how to bridge gaps of understanding, and is sensitive to others

  • Able to communicate with multi-tiers of understanding

  • Able to develop practical uses of training materials

  • Understanding of various code compliance, code listings, code approvals and the impact they have on the business (Building, Hail, Fire, Energy, Wind, etc.)

  • Able to perform the physical needs of preparing and testing of products to testing standards of given product offering

  • Roofing installation of niche products and roof system applications

  • Familiar with product testing standards, testing criteria, and testing methods

  • Able to work with outside firms for product development

  • Able to read and work with technical drawings, both architectural and engineering

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision (must be able to see and distinguish colors), peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office. Some of the work may be required in the operating units and job sites which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators. 60% air and auto travel is required. Insurability and valid US state driver's license is mandatory.
