Project Manager

Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability (CCPSA)

Number of Positions: 1

The Project Manager will serve on a team that includes one Deputy Director, two other Project Managers, six Community Outreach Coordinators, and a Senior Administrative Assistant. This team is responsible for supporting the work of 22 three-person District Councils (66 District Councilors) as they engage in local-level police accountability work pursuant to Municipal Code of Chicago 2-80-070.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES




  • Manages specialized and large-scale project(s) of significant size and scope that supports a departmental bureau, program, and/or initiative, i.e., operational projects to support the functioning of District Councils, special projects requested by District Councils, and Ordinance-required projects (e.g., the Nominating Committee, Quarterly and Annual Meetings of District Council delegations).
  • Functions as a technical specialist or expert level professional in a specific area related to project management and administration
  • Prepares long-range project plans in coordination with stakeholders including the establishment of work plans and staffing for each phase of project(s)
  • Consults with staff and consultants to determine the scope of services, budgets and specifications of projects
  • Organizes engagements with the Community Commission
  • Organizes major events hosted by a District Council or multiple District Councils
  • Establishes timelines and implements processes to track and monitor progress, targets, key objectives and milestones, and budgets for established projects
  • Ensures that project goals and objectives of projects are accomplished within allocated time frame and funding parameters
  • Ensures proper staffing and coordinates the work of District Council Working Groups
  • Leads cross-functional teams to improve business strategies and performance with stakeholders


* Executes advocacy projects for District Councils related to community policing, restorative justice, alternative responses to policing, and community input on policing strategies.

* Develops and implements project release plans (e.g., transfer of responsibility, ownership, and control) and reports on the progress of all project activities



  • Handles research inquiries and requests for complex data, records, and information from CPD and other agencies
  • Works with District Council projects that involve press or intergovernmental components
  • Supports District Council initiatives to respond to community concerns
  • Represents the department in cross functional partnerships

Shift: Monday-Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm (some evenings)

Salary: $86,520/yr

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS



  • Nine (9) years of work experience in project management or program coordination, OR
  • Graduation from an accredited college with an Associate's degree PLUS seven (7) years of project management or program coordination work experience, OR
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's PLUS five (5) years of project management or program coordination work experience, OR
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree or higher PLUS four (4) years of project management or program coordination work experience



Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:



  • Working knowledge of local community needs and resources.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, often simultaneously.
  • Ability to work in a team or committee setting.
  • Ability to exercise tact and discretion in group and/or joint interactions.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to produce reports with high professional quality and attention to detail.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read, write and speak any language other than English
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills, internet, and email.


Selection Criteria

This position requires applicants to complete an interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be selected.

Residency Requirement: All employees of the City must be actual residents of the City as outlined in 2-152-050 of the City Chicago Municipal Code. Proof of residency will be required.
