Senior Manager, Executive Communications

Job Summary:

The Senior Manager, Executive Communications is responsible for developing and executing communication strategies that enhance the visibility and reputation of key executive leadership. This role works with the firm's communications leaders to define and curate BDO's voice in the marketplace including crafting compelling narratives, managing messaging and developing executive eminence deliverables. The Sr. Manager works both independently and collaboratively and is a strong creative and critical thinker able to develop content that resonates with the firm's stakeholders while supporting its overarching communications goals.

Job Duties:



  • Develops and implements comprehensive executive communication strategies and tactics, including full-year communications calendars for each executive, that support the company's objectives and enhance leadership visibility
  • Collaborates with leaders to identify key messages, themes and stories that will resonate with target audiences
  • Crafts speeches, social media posts, video/podcast scripts and other written communications (including bylines and media responses/ talking points) for key executives, ensuring clarity, consistency and alignment with the company's voice, values and messaging
  • Manages executive appearances and speaking engagements, including preparation, logistics, and follow-up.
  • Coaches executives on effective communication techniques and provides actionable feedback on delivery
  • Manages the creation and on-time distribution of executive communications across various channels, including digital, print, and social media
  • Remains apprised of news and trends in the accounting and advisory industry, including regulatory developments and economic drivers that contribute to client business issues to identify timely, issued-based thought leadership opportunities for senior executives
  • Remains apprised of current events and movements that are shaping society - including DEI, ESG, reputation and culture and how they impact the business community and business leaders
  • Monitors and analyzes communication effectiveness, providing insights and recommendations for improvement
  • Builds and maintains relationships with PR agencies and key BDO stakeholders, including Internal Communication, Creative Services, Marketing and People & Culture, amongst others
  • Assists in reputation management efforts, ensuring timely and effective messaging during critical situations
  • Develops short and long-form content, as well as provide proofreading support for external communications including web content, press releases and messaging documents, as needed - ensuring adherence to BDO brand standards and BDO's writing style guide
  • Stays informed of best practices in executive communications to continuously enhance strategies and execution
  • Other duties as required

  • Provides support related to the personal and professional growth of individual team members


Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Education:



  • Bachelor's degree, required; with a focus in Marketing, Communications, or Journalism, preferred


Experience:



  • Ten (10) or more years of experience in professional services or B2B marketing and/or communications in progressive leadership roles, required
  • Experience supporting a C-level executive's communications, required
  • Public relations agency experience, preferred


Software:



  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, required
  • Experience in Airtable, preferred

  • Knowledge of marketing strategies and tactics and their application in a professional services organization
  • Strong knowledge in business writing and content strategy
  • Thorough knowledge of corporate communications function, including brand strategy and reputation management, public relations and crisis management, and advertising
  • Ability to synthesize complex information into simple, high impact messages
  • Strong business acumen with an ability to understand and communicate BDO's core purpose, service offerings and value proposition
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, as well as the ability to present and facilitate
  • A strategic thinker with strong content development skills, who can turn complex ideas and data into coherent, engaging stories
  • Able to clearly articulate complex issues and formulate recommendations to a wide variety of audiences
  • Knowledge of the media landscape and media relations
  • Ability to influence thoughtfully and positively, lead, marshal resources and manage change in a matrix environment
  • Exceptional project management skills and organizational skills, including ability to effectively manage to and monitor marketing budgets


Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.
Illinois Range: $120,000 - $150,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $120,000 - $150,000
