About the Department |
The Department of Clinical Sciences has 60 faculty members, 59 residents,
interns, and post-doctoral fellows, 23 graduate students, and 24 research
technicians and 3 administrative staff. The department provides learning
opportunities within the four-year veterinary curriculum (educational
information) and through continuing education for practitioners. Within the
Veterinary Health Complex, faculty and staff provide care for patients, teach
veterinary students, and provide advanced training for interns and residents.
Faculty are very active in research programs to improve the health and welfare of
animals and people. The Comparative Biomedical Sciences graduate program
allows graduate students to focus their research in the areas of cell biology,
infectious diseases, pharmacology, pathology, and population medicine. Other
graduate programs with which departmental faculty are affiliated include
programs in immunology, physiology, toxicology and functional genomics.
Faculty are also involved with the Fisheries, Wildlife and Conservation Biology
graduate program. |
Essential Job Duties |
The Behavioral Medicine Laboratory is seeking a Research Assistant to support ongoing studies focused on companion animal behavior. This role offers a mix of hands-on work with dogs and cats and behind-the-scenes coordination that helps keep research efforts running smoothly.
What you'll do:
- Assist in coordinating day-to-day research activities, including working directly with dogs and cats
- Collect and manage behavioral data using video systems, telemetry, sensory testing, and other remote measurement tools
- Support patient scheduling and communicate with clients as needed
- Conduct routine biostatistical work-gathering, summarizing, analyzing, and interpreting data to support research outcomes

In addition to your core responsibilities, you'll occasionally drive to nearby universities to support collaborative research efforts and assist with behavioral testing coordination. |
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree, or relevant Bachelor's degree plus 3 or more
years of independent research experience, or substantiative relevant independent
experience and education. May require terminal degree and licensure. |
Other Required Qualifications |
- Research/work experience in behavioral sciences or related fields, interest in the field.
- Comfortable and willing to work outdoors as necessary and within the research facility with dogs and cats.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience with cognitive or behavioral testing; behavioral data analysis with video systems; telemetry; biostatistics and data analysis.
- Experience working with dogs and cats in a research or veterinary environment
- Applied knowledge of biostatistics.
