DESCRIPTION

Join the City of Corona's Utilities Department as a Water Resources Field Representative where you will be protecting and preserving our community's water resources through expert fieldwork, conservation efforts, and public outreach!

The Utilities Department is comprised of five divisions including Water, Wastewater, Reclaimed Water, Electric and Solid Waste.

What You'll Do:
  • Safeguard our Water Resources: Conduct field inspections and assessments to ensure water systems meet and exceed local and state standards-all while identifying issues before they escalate.

  • Empower Through Collaboration: Work hand-in-hand with local, state, and regional agencies as well as other city departments to champion sustainable water practices and community well-being.

  • Drive Operational Excellence: Investigate water-related challenges from leak detection to efficient irrigation, ensuring the high standards of Corona's commitment to service and safety.

What We're Looking For:

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

  • Educational: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, supplemented by landscape and irrigation maintenance training or a related field.

  • Experience: At least one (1) year of experience in water-efficient landscape and irrigation maintenance and related construction work.

  • Licenses & Certifications:

    • Possession of a valid California Driver's License, to be maintained throughout employment.

    • Possession of, or successful acquisition within 24 months of employment, a valid California-Nevada America Water Works Association Water Use Efficiency Grade I Practitioner Certificate, to be maintained throughout employment.

    • Possession of, or successful acquisition within three (3) testing periods from employment, a valid Irrigation Association Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor certificate, to be maintained throughout employment.

This position is FLSA Non-Exempt, eligible for overtime compensation.

The Application Process

Applications will be accepted until 5:00pm on Monday, June 9, 2025. Candidates who successfully pass the screening process and are deemed to possess the most desirable qualifications will be invited to an exam tentatively scheduled for the week of June 16, 2025. The top scoring candidates from the exam will then be invited to in-person oral interviews tentatively scheduled for the week of July 7, 2025.

Top scoring candidates from the oral interviews will be placed on an eligibility list from which the department may hire. The eligibility list established from this recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies throughout the city. There is currently 1 vacancy for a Water Resources Field Representative.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a reference / background check including livescan fingerprinting and pass a pre-employment medical examination (which will include a drug/alcohol screening).

The Organization

The City of Corona is a General Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government. Policymaking and legislative authority is vested in the City Council, consisting of a Mayor and four Council Members. Members of the City Council are elected by District to a four-year term. The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves as the presiding officer for one year.

The City is organized into the following departments/organizational units: Community Services, City Manager's Office, Economic Development, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal and Risk Management, Police, Planning & Development, Public Works and Utilities. Oversight of these departments is divided between the City Manager and two Assistant City Managers.


The City's total operating budget for Fiscal Year 2025 is $ 399.1 million with a General Fund operating budget of $ 209.6 million. Corona enjoys a workforce of 922 dedicated employees who provide high quality services to its residents and visitors each day.
