LOCATION: University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) Labovitz School of Business and Economics (LSBE) Department of Management Studies

JOB TITLE: Assistant Professor, if the candidate has a Ph.D.; Instructor if ABD.

APPOINTMENT START DATE:
Fall semester appointment begins August 18, 2025; classes begin August 25, 2025; Spring semester appointment begins January 7, 2026; classes begin January 14, 2026.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Department of Management Studies is seeking a pool of candidates to fill a variety of potential positions. Being a member of the qualified applicant pool does not ensure a teaching contract will be offered; course offerings, and therefore teaching appointments will vary with demand and available funding. Typically, classes are held in person.

The Labovitz School of Business and Economics (LSBE) at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) invites applications for potentially up to one part-time, adjunct, non-tenure track, faculty positions in the Department of Management Studies at the Instructor/Assistant Professor level beginning Fall 2025. The department's current teaching needs are in the areas of Business Analytics, Human Resource Management, Management Information Systems, and Organizational Behavior. The candidate must be prepared to teach one to two courses in fall and/or spring semester within any of these areas depending upon the needs of the department and hold regularly scheduled office hours during the semester.

Qualifications

BUSINESS ANALYTICS:
Required/Essential:

  1. Applicants must have a minimum of a Masters degree in Business Analytics/Management Information System or an equivalent program such as Data Science or AI from an accredited institution with substantive coursework in the analytics/modeling of data, or be ABD in Business Analytics/MIS/Data Science or related programs from a major accredited national or international university.
  2. If the applicant has a Masters degree and is not ABD or PhD, the applicant must have experience that demonstrates active involvement in his/her profession, which is in the primary teaching area, since the time of the Masters degree completion. Applicants must submit a CV about their full-time work experience and engagement in professional activities (e.g., attending business/professional events, participation in professional development activities, service on boards, or continuing education, etc.) to determine their eligibility to teach in the school's accredited programs. Eligibility is met by achieving the minimum conditions for one of the four 2020 AACSB faculty qualifications [Scholarly Academic (SA), Practice Academic (PA), Scholarly Practitioner (SP), or Instructional Practitioner (IP)] as defined by LSBE: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GbNhdtIcaSZdmaeTlW8DnjcnnFJ7Hlu9/view

HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT:

Applicants must have a minimum of a Masters degree in Human Resource Management, or an equivalent program from an accredited institution with substantive coursework in Human Resource Management and/or industrial relations (e.g., MLIR, MBA, MM), or be ABD in Human Resource Management (with substantive coursework in Human Resource Management) from a major accredited national or international university.
  2. If the applicant has a Masters degree and is not ABD or PhD, the applicant must have experience that demonstrates active involvement in his/her profession, which is in the primary teaching area, since the time of the Masters degree completion. Applicants must submit a CV about their full-time work experience and engagement in professional activities (e.g., attending business/professional events, participation in professional development activities, service on boards, or continuing education, etc.) to determine their eligibility to teach in the school's accredited programs.   1. Applicants must have a minimum of a Master's degree in MIS/CS/IT or Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) with coursework in MIS/CS/IT or be ABD in MIS/CS/IT (with substantive coursework in MIS/CS/IT) from a major accredited national or international university.
  2. If the applicant has a Masters degree and is not ABD or PhD, the applicant must have experience that demonstrates active involvement in his/her profession, which is in the primary teaching area, since the time of the Masters degree completion. Applicants must submit a CV about their full-time work experience and engagement in professional activities (e.g., attending business/professional events, participation in professional development activities, service on boards, or continuing education, etc.) to determine their eligibility to teach in the school's accredited programs. Applicants must have a minimum of a Masters degree in Organizational Behavior, Organizational Management, Industrial-Organizational Psychology or an equivalent program from an accredited institution with substantive coursework in Organizational Behavior, or be ABD in Organizational Behavior, I/O Psychology, or Management (with substantive coursework in Organizational Behavior) from a major accredited national or international university.
  2. If the applicant has a Masters degree and is not ABD or PhD, the applicant must have experience that demonstrates active involvement in his/her profession, which is in the primary teaching area, since the time of the Masters degree completion. Applicants must submit a CV about their full-time work experience and engagement in professional activities (e.g., attending business/professional events, participation in professional development activities, service on boards, or continuing education, etc.) to determine their eligibility to teach in the school's accredited programs. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS for Business Analytics, Human Resource Management, Management Information Systems, and Organizational Behavior:

  1. College-level teaching experience in the areas of Business Analytics, Human Resource Management, Management Information Systems, or Organizational Behavior. Demonstrate ability to teach elective courses at the undergraduate level to a diverse group of students.
  2. Evidence of the potential to fulfill service responsibilities to students, colleagues, the department, and School.
  3. Significant work experience (five years or more) in their area of teaching.

ABOUT LSBE:
The Labovitz School of Business and Economics (LSBE) is AACSB-International accredited and housed in a state-of-the-art building. Approximately 1,700 undergraduate and graduate students are enrolled in the school's programs. There are approximately 50 full-time faculty members in four academic departments: Accounting and Finance, Economics and Health Care Management, Management Studies, and Marketing. The School offers a Bachelor of Accounting, Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Arts in Economics, and MBA degrees. Regional outreach is accomplished primarily through the Bureau of Business and Economic Research activities. Pay and Benefits

Pay Range:

Assistant Professor
$4800.00 -$7000.00 per course; depending on education/qualifications/experience.

Instructor if ABD
$4800.00 -$7000.00 per course; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
