Job Summary

The Therapeutic Area Analytics & Insights Director - Rare Diseases (RD) in Data, Analytics, and AI is a strategic advisor to key stakeholders and an integral contributor to Genentech's Commercial, Medical, and Government Affairs (CMG) planning efforts. This individual is responsible for developing or supporting the delivery of actionable insights and strategic recommendations to inform timely and critical business decisions in specific therapeutic areas. This role involves collaborating with stakeholders to understand business needs, conducting targeted analyses to uncover tailored insights, and synthesizing findings into strategic options aligned with organizational goals. This work will guide decisions that affect in-line, pipeline, and business development assets. This individual is responsible for providing strategic recommendations with minimal guidance or supervision, leveraging their capabilities. He/she may also manage 1-2 individual contributors, providing coaching and oversight. The Director works flexibly within a matrix structure, sensing business priorities and reprioritizing work to meet organizational objectives. By embedding analytics products into workflows and fostering a culture of continuous improvement, this role plays a pivotal part in enhancing analytical capabilities and supporting the strategic direction of the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise stakeholders to define clear, impactful business priorities within Rare Diseases, and develop action plans. Develop strategic options and recommendations by synthesizing findings, connecting insights across therapeutic areas or analytic domains, and aligning them with organizational goals.

  • Demonstrate mastery in tailoring communication to specific audiences, communicating and influencing senior leaders and simplifying details for stakeholder buy-in.

  • Translate strategic vision into actionable insights by leveraging a strong analytical background and deep subject matter expertise in respective domain(s), with a focus on RD to ensure successful execution of initiatives across teams and functions.

  • Sense business needs through stakeholder interactions, drive towards outcomes through high degrees of uncertainty, and lead cross-functional teams to achieve business outcomes.

  • Catalyze and entrench new solutions and ways of working into the business.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to deeply understand business needs, key questions, and priorities, and ensure alignment with project objectives and analytic lead direction.

  • Perform custom analyses by applying appropriate analytic techniques to address business challenges.

  • Demonstrate leadership through pro-active, informal coaching and mentorship of analysts across the team.

  • If leading 1-2 individual contributors: manage, coach, and develop individual contributors and provide oversight of their work.

  • Take an enterprise mindset, linking individual responsibilities with broader organization; focus on outcomes that provide most business and patient value in RD.

  • Contribute to continuous organizational improvement by sharing best practices, identifying opportunities for automation, and enhancing the efficiency and impact of analytic workflows.

  • Play an active role in the adoption of analytical products by staying up to date on the product roadmap, participating in training, user testing (as needed), and providing constructive feedback to ensure products are integrated into workflows. Embed and integrate products into workflows and foster a product-first culture.

  • Effectively interact with and guide offshore teams to ensure alignment with business outcomes and maintain high-quality deliverables.

  • Demonstrate mastery of a capability, and pro-actively help teammates build proficiency/mastery of that capability.

  • Autonomously operate and manage all levels of stakeholders (with extremely limited or no manager guidance).

  • Accountable for pro-actively providing expertise, strategic planning support and execution against evolution of a capability in RD

  • Actively contribute to the community of practice through leading or sponsoring initiatives, setting strategic directions, and empowering others to engage and innovate, thereby elevating the community's impact and reach.

  • Quickly adapt to evolving priorities by working flexibly within one or more of these capabilities/expertise areas to address varying business needs and deliver impactful insights and analytics:

    • Market Research: Conduct or guide work to conduct qualitative and quantitative research with patients, caregivers, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders in the healthcare ecosystem to assess and improve the patient experience.

    • Data Analytics: Analyze secondary and structured datasets to surface actionable insights that benefit customers and patients.

  • Access: Apply expertise in managed care to assess the impact of payer management, coverage, coding, pricing, contracting, and other reimbursement drivers, and work to remove barriers to Genentech therapies while improving the overall customer experience.

  • Forecasting: Advise revenue and supply forecasts, and provide actionable insights to inform strategic business decisions

  • Competitive Intelligence: Monitor and guide the tracking of the competitive landscape, assess competitive threats, and gather intelligence from key national and regional medical conferences to inform strategy and positioning.

  • Digital Measurements: Design and conduct digital analytics and performance measurement to generate insights that inform strategy.

  • Comply with all laws, regulations and policies that govern the conduct of Genentech activities.

Who You Are

Minimum Candidate Qualifications & Experience

  • 8 years of relevant work experience (or equivalent with advanced education).

  • Bachelor's Degree.

  • Growth Mindset.

  • Experience synthesizing concise summaries focused on the key insights that inform business decisions.

  • Comfortable dealing with uncertainty in a highly-matrixed organization.

  • Strong results orientation and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.

  • Persuasive written and verbal communication skills.

Additional Desired Candidate Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, Statistics, Life Sciences, Mathematics, Computer or Physical Sciences or related field.

  • MBA or Graduate-level Degree.

  • Understanding of rare disease conditions with low prevalence and high unmet need, including familiarity with orphan drug development, patient identification challenges, and the nuances of ultra-rare indications.

  • Experience with the diagnostic journey, clinical trial complexities, and limited patient populations characteristic of rare disease drug development.

  • 2+ years demonstrated ability to coach and lead teams and projects, and lead people to drive predetermined outcomes.

  • Proven track record of proactive leadership, time-management, project management, and teamwork.

  • Mastery in exploring large amounts of data, identifying important insights and building compelling narratives.

  • Proficiency in understanding market landscape and surfacing insights across multiple primary data sources.

  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following domains:

    • Market Research

  • Expertise in designing and fielding qualitative and quantitative primary market research plans.

  • Proficiency in understanding market landscape and surfacing insights across multiple primary data sources.

    • Forecasting

  • Experience with revenue forecasting, including patient-flow methods, statistical methods, and uncertainty analysis.

  • Experience building and improving forecasting models.

    • Competitive Intelligence

  • Competitive intelligence experience.

  • Exposure to pharmaceutical product development and/or commercialization.

    • Data Analytics

  • Experience working with analytical tools is required (e.g., Python, R, and SQL).

  • Working knowledge of secondary data sources including syndicated sales, promotional and marketing data, longitudinal patient-level data; experience with payer data is preferred.

  • Experience with statistical modeling, analysis, and presentation of results to a non-technical audience.

    • Access

  • Experience solving access issues across a wide range of products, therapeutic areas, and challenges, with limited guidance, insights, or resources.

  • In-depth understanding of US payers and their perspective in the markets and trends in pricing and reimbursement.

  • Experience designing and conducting primary market research with payers and other formulary decision makers, MDs, and practice managers is preferred.

    • Digital Measurement

  • Experience designing and conducting digital analytics/measurements.

  • Exposure to pharmaceutical product development and/or commercialization.

  • Proficient with data analytics tools (Excel, Python, SQL, etc.).

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $172,620 and $320,580. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
