Railroad & Transit Team

Burns is currently seeking a Electrical Resident Engineer to join our Railroad & Transit team in Washington, D.C.

SUMMARY

We are seeking a skilled Electrical Resident Engineer to provide technical and field support to a transit authority as part of a staff augmentation role. This position is responsible for overseeing electrical aspects of construction projects, ensuring engineering quality, code compliance, safety, and project alignment with standards. The successful candidate will work through all phases of project execution-from design through testing and commissioning.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of project plans, specifications, construction schedules, contractor submittals, and safety regulations.
  • Serve as the electrical engineering subject matter expert and ensure implementation of engineering tasks in alignment with plans and specifications
  • Provide technical input related to constructability, scopes of work, cost estimates, proposal evaluations, schedules, change requests, and commissioning strategies.
  • Monitor and document construction processes and ensure conformance with all internal and external project requirements.
  • Evaluate design and construction activities for potential risks, propose alternatives, and make recommendations to mitigate issues.
  • Report on project progress, technical issues, and risk items to stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and participate in field inspections as needed.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE



  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in construction or electrical engineering, with at least 2 years in the transit industry.
  • Demonstrated experience with on-site field inspections and contractor coordination.
  • Strong understanding of electrical codes, standards, and industry best practices.
  • Ability to physically access project sites and perform hands-on inspections.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • PE (Professional Engineer) license, CCM (Certified Construction Manager), or CPC (Certified Professional Constructor) certification.
  • Proficiency in project management software such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and Procore.
