Job Description:

Cubic is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Engineer with a specialty in Thermal Engineering to support the design, development, and qualification of defense systems. The role will play a key part in developing thermal management solutions for mission-critical compute, networking, and power regulation hardware, particularly focused on cooling CPU, solid-state storage, NIC, and GPU chipsets. This role requires a working understanding of thermodynamics, conductivity and heat transfer, and fluid dynamics in harsh and constrained operational environments.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Design and analyze thermal management systems for defense applications, including high-power mobile electronics (under 1000 watts total system power).
  • Conduct thermal modeling and simulations during solution design phase.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in mechanical design, systems engineering, materials science, and manufacturing to ensure thermal performance and reliability of the entire solution.
  • Assist with generating environmental testing requirements, including thermal cycling, shock, and vibration, focusing on MIL-STD testing methods.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective actions for thermal-related system failures or performance throttling events.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field (Master's preferred with thermal emphasis).
  • 5+ years of total experience, including thermal design and analysis, preferably in defense or aerospace applications.
  • Experience with thermal simulation tools.
  • Knowledge of defense environmental standards (e.g., MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-1472).
  • Experience with CAD tools such as Creo, SolidWorks, or CATIA.
  • U.S. Citizenship required with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
  • Experience with embedded electronics thermal management systems.
  • Familiarity with ruggedization techniques for electronic cooling systems in challenging environments.
  • Hands-on experience with thermal test instrumentation and data acquisition systems.

Cubic Pay Range:

$100,000.00 - $145,113.00 + benefits.

The Cubic pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
