The opportunity

Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Development, you will provide financial and transaction management support to members of the Strategy & Corporate Development team in pursuit of acquisition, divestiture, partnership, and other strategic activities.

*Please note: Travel will be limited but may be required from time to time to the US and Mexico (and will require a valid passport).

What you'll do

  • Conduct financial analysis of corporate and asset merger and acquisition opportunities
  • Support potential acquisition and divestiture due diligence processes including coordinating and liaising with key internal groups such as Evaluations, Commercial, Engineering, Operations, Legal, Finance, Tax, Risk, IS, HS&E, Accounting as well as external parties
  • Manage information and related systems as part of potential acquisition and divestiture processes
  • Assist with identifying key investment risks and benefits; propose commercial or structural alternatives to avoid or minimize risks while maximizing benefits and support the negotiations of purchase and sale or partnership agreements
  • Develop information packages for potential acquisitions and divestitures, including strategic rationale, economic evaluation, transaction terms and risk factors, to provide a recommendation to the senior leadership team and board of directors
  • Perform evaluations on individual assets held within TC Energy's asset portfolio based on various valuation methodologies
  • Develop and complete asset allocation analysis considering factors such as: sectors, markets, products, geographies, and risk vs. return
  • Complete strategic and financial assessments of TC Energy's peers and identify implications of competitor strategies to TC Energy's business prospects and investment decisions
  • Report key developments occurring within the energy industry, including analyzing, evaluating, and tracking merger and acquisition transactions occurring in the marketplace
  • Support the maintenance of an internal repository of public trading comparables that analyze peer valuations
  • Conduct analysis and prepare material in support of strategic information sessions and the annual strategy session for the senior leadership team and board of directors
  • Other tasks as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Commerce, Economics, or Engineering/Science
  • Completion or working towards a CBV, CFA designation, an MBA (finance focus is preferred amongst post-graduate degrees), or a professional accounting designation
  • Minimum 5 years of related and progressive industry / business experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience performing financial valuations as well as an understanding of the fundamental principles of economics, risk analysis, portfolio theory and accounting
  • Proficient using MS Word, PowerPoint along with advanced Excel modeling skills
  • Strong communication, influencing and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis, with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality
  • Keen attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Capability and flexibility to respond to time pressure by adjusting work hours to meet critical deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in cross-functional teams
  • Knowledge of TC Energy's businesses, the energy industry and capital markets is considered an asset
