The Ann Arboroffice of SmithGroupis looking for aRegional Business Development Directorto join our team.

Working with us, you will:



  • Play an integral role in developing and executing the overall business development strategies within the region.
  • Actively partner with the Regional Director and Market Directors, amongst others, to define and drive regional market strategy.
  • Lead and oversees the development of business development strategy at Regional, Practice, Location (office) and Studio levels.
  • Participate in new market investigation or market strategy development including identification of new geographies.
  • Participate in the development of a firmwide strategy for business development in partnership with regional directors, market directors, marketing director and managing partners.
  • Lead the development of BD goals for the region and alignment with other regional/firmwide goals.
  • Work with the Regional Director to establish regional budgets for business development.
  • Partner in the development of the strategic plan with the regional director and key studio leaders.
  • Develop project pursuit strategies & position SmithGroup for projects before Requests for Proposals are issued.
  • Actively engage in proposal strategy development and serve as interview coach for highly strategic or large-scale pursuits.
  • Work with Business Development Directors, studio, and office leadership to build conference visibility strategies within the region.
  • Lead the hiring, onboarding, and management/coaching of high performing regional business development teams to drive new business and revenue.



An ideal candidate has:



  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or related field, preferred.
  • 10+ years of direct business development experience in the AEC or professional services industry.
  • Knowledge of AEC/Real Estate market and a robust knowledge of SmithGroup portfolio, expertise and resources.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics or CRM systems for lead tracking.
  • Highly strategic mindset that drives strategy development.
  • Proven ability to build and manage high performing teams.

While we may ultimately pay more or less than a posted salary range, at the time of posting the anticipated salary range for this position is $167,000 to $202,000 annually and you are eligible for a performance-based bonus each year.
