Short Description Performs various laboratory tests for the Clinical Laboratory according to accepted practices and provides technical expertise to the lab staff. Experience Required Histology only: Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school preferred or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 5 years experience desirable. Education Requirements Associates of Science Degree, minimum in Medical Technology or related field or certification (e.g., ASCP) in field of expertise. License/Certification Requirements Board Certified ASCP Histotechnologist Required Special Requirements Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets documents such as, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures manuals, safety regulations, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, customers, employees of the organization or regulatory agencies. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical inference, basic algebra and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram, or schedule form. Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
