The Position
We advance science so that we all have more time with the people we love. The Translational Medicine department at Genentech provides translational research to inform clinical development in disease areas of Ophthalmology, Metabolism, Neuroscience, Immunology and Infectious Diseases (TM-OMNI). Our research encompasses cutting edge support of clinical biomarker discovery and development, development of personalized healthcare strategies, and clinical translational research to study the molecular and cellular pathways driving disease to generate novel target and biomarker approaches. We are seeking a highly motivated Principal or Senior Principal Lab Group Head to join TM-OMNI and drive our translational research efforts in Multiple Sclerosis (MS), with a focus on:
Innovative Treatments: Identifying novel approaches to treat MS through cutting-edge translational research. Biomarker Development: Designing, implementing, and interpreting biomarker results to understand disease pathogenesis and accelerate clinical development. Translational Research and Omics: Leveraging clinical samples and employing advanced omics technologies (genomics, proteomics, metabolomics) and cellular phenotyping to evaluate disease heterogeneity and therapeutic modification, guiding the assessment of disease pathogenesis and drug discovery.
The Opportunity: As an integral member of our dynamic team, you will:
Identifying and validating targets to advance drug discovery efforts, leveraging deep expertise in disease biology and target validation. Leading data generation and analysis in internal studies and academic collaborations, contributing to an understanding of MS pathogenesis. Developing human-derived models (in vitro and in vivo) to support target validation and development of new therapies. Translating preclinical findings to clinical applications. Investigating molecular and cellular pathology in MS with cutting-edge methods such as Perturb-seq, multiomics, scRNA-seq, immune repertoire, CITE-seq, spatial transcriptomics, genetics and/or functional genomics to reveal novel mechanisms. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams and external partners. Presenting findings effectively to internal cross-functional teams, committees, and external conferences, contributing to protocols, reports, filings, and publications.
Who You Are:
Candidates must have a PhD and/or MD and postdoctoral or fellowship experience in Neuroimmunology or a related field, with minimum 2 years (Principal Scientist) 5 years (Sr. Principal Scientist) or more post-graduate experience including in Multiple Sclerosis Strong background in translational research, target identification and validation. Passionate about leveraging disease biology knowledge to impact clinical drug development. Demonstrated ability to be part of a cross-functional team such as research or clinical trial project teams is preferred. Proven ability to lead independently, develop hypotheses, guide lab scientists, and employ computational analysis. Familiar with complex analytical methods to assess 'omic data, knowledge of R and/or Python is preferred. Strong writing and communication skills evidenced by publications, grants, and/or drug development reports. Willingness to collaborate across time zones, including our Swiss site, is a must.
Relocation benefits are available for this posting. The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $141,500-$262,900 (Principal Scientist) and $176,600-$328,000 (Senior Principal Scientist) .
