We are ranked as one of Computerworld 's Top Places to Work in IT 6 years running and are seeking a Junior Classified Systems Administrator who will provide Tier I & II incident management through established Service Desk Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). You will perform duties vital to solve technical problems within the infrastructure and user base. You will be the first point of contact for customers seeking technical assistance over the phone, via e-mail, or in person. You will provide computer hardware/software support by configuring, installing, and/or maintaining systems and networks used in classified environments consisting of network devices, MS Windows/Linux servers and workstations, and a set of operational end-users.

As a Junior Classified Systems Administrator, you will:

  • Provide first contact resolution for account administration, desktop, applications, and network connectivity problems. Support Microsoft Windows 10 Operating Systems and provide Active Directory account management. Create, update, and resolve service desk tickets using an ITSM ticketing system and answer inquiries into the Service Desk via phone, email, in-person, or self-help.
  • Independently research, analyze, diagnose and resolve issues with classified systems including computer hardware & software, peripheral equipment, and networks using documented processes.
  • Develop documentation including ticket creation and maintenance, e-mails, process improvements, knowledge base articles. Create, maintain, and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to enhance our services.
  • Assist with system upgrades, software and hardware deployments, and patch maintenance. Participate in IT projects and initiatives within the classified space.
  • Ensure new workstations/printers/zero clients are built/configured and deployed by meeting all compliance requirements.
  • Have great communication skills to present technical details to a wide ranging audience.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Have a Bachelor's Degree in an IT-related field, or equivalent work experience with at least 3 years of technical support in a Microsoft IT environment.
  • Are able to address hardware and software technical issues and independently resolve a variety of complex problems using IT knowledge, research, and partnering with external resources.
  • Have a good understanding of Windows Workstation/Server operating systems, Active Directory, DNS, Group Policy, Printer, Desktop and Network configuration.
  • Have excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Have demonstrated experience troubleshooting advanced networking issues.
  • Perform as an individual contributor as well as within a team environment, and collaborate with all levels of staff.
  • Have minimum 6 months experience working on DoD classified systems or related technology, as well as DoD STIGs.
  • Have a current industry certification aligned to DoD Manual 8570.01-M or 8140 for IAT II.
  • Have an active Secret security clearance and can obtain a Top-Secret security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

  • CCNA Certification
  • Ability to diagnose and remediate cyber threats and vulnerabilities
  • Enterprise level asset management (i.e., MEM (SCCM), PDQDeploy, ServiceNow)
  • Have experience managing and maintaining virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI).
  • Possess experience using scripting languages.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
