Position Summary

Instructor for Emergency Life Support classes, specifically American Heart Association (AHA) BLS/ACLS/PALS. Assist in coordination of AHA Training Center operations to ensure Valley Health System maintains compliance with certification requirements based on job descriptions.

* Provides direct support to the Training Center Coordinator and acts as liaison between the staff, management, community, aligned instructors and the Training Center Coordinator.
* Acts a liaison between the American Heart Association and The Valley Hospital Training Center in the absence of the Training Center Coordinator.
* Proficient in utilization of AHA software to adjust enrollments, review classes for documentation required, and issue completion cards.
* Proficient in registering staff in LMS and AHA software, including processing of payments.
* Perform quality checks to ensure all participants are enrolled in the proper program utilizing Valley's LMS system.
* Maintains inventory of AHA course materials and equipment associated with the Training Center. Completes supply requisition or retrieves orders from the distribution department as directed.
* Coordinates a variety of functions, projects, and assignments. Aids, as necessary to ensure the completion of work-related activities, functions, and projects in an efficient manner with pre-determined time limits.
* Exercises effective judgement in day-to-day activities. Prioritize tasks to meet pre-determined deadlines and schedules. Attempts to resolve problems independently, when feasible. Confers and collaborates with the Training Center Coordinator on issues in question.
* Monitors courses to ensure an acceptable student/instructor ratio maintained.
* Assists in maintaining AHA policies and procedures, not limited to electronic records of all courses for three years, ATLAS, the AHA Instructor Network and compliance with the AHA Program Administration Manual.
* Apply the knowledge and skills necessary to provide training appropriate to the participants served, i.e., age, experience, language skills, physical abilities, etc.
* Assist with monitoring of instructor renewals and alignment with the Valley Hospital Training Center for all disciplines.
* Assist with maintaining financial guidelines to meet budgetary requirements.
* Support Valley Health System public events in the community to develop the awareness/importance of emergency cardiac care and training.
* Maintains departmental and training center equipment in proper working order. Troubleshoots malfunctions and operational problems and initiates requests for repairs and services with responsible person as directed. Follow through to ensure repair completed.
* Update and inform other staff members on status of work, problems, and projects. Seek guidance and direction as necessary when performing duties as required or directed.
* Accurately enters, updates, and audits one's own API clocking transactions (timecard) including benefit time (EE: 0-3 Corrections submitted, AE 4-6 Corrections submitted, NI 7 or more Corrections submitted.)
* Performs other duties as required and/or requested based on the needs of the organization and community.

Education

Bachelor's Degree (preferably, Business, Education or Health Field Related)

Current New Jersey Licensed Medical Paramedic or Nursing License

Skills

AHA BLS/ACLS/PALS Certification required, instructor preferred. Previous AHA BLS & ACLS Training Center Manager preferred.

Excellent organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively (oral and written). Ability to effectively interact with customers to meet their needs. Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision. Ability to work cooperatively within a team environment. The ability to manage frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule.

Ability to set priorities, make effective decisions and respond to customer needs. Ability to solve problems and prioritize. Use discretion in confidential matters.

Working Conditions

Environmentally controlled office and outside environments, in addition to environments other than those managed by the Valley Health System. Travel through the health system facilities and to non-system training venues in all types of weather conditions.

*Position requires walking or standing to a significant degree and entails pushing and/or pulling to move objects. May require lifting 10 to 20 pounds.

1606 Bloodborne Pathogen Category II: Employees in this job description should not have contact with bloodborne pathogens but MAY have exposure to bloodborne pathogens and as such they are required to be oriented and annually trained under the Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration's Bloodborne Pathogen Standard (CRF 1910.1030)
