Supervisor, Leave Management

HealthPartners is currently hiring a Supervisor, Leave Management. The supervisor leads a leave team of three (3) people and oversees the HealthPartners' leave management program. Acting as a liaison between colleagues, leadership, and a 3rd party leave claims administrator, the supervisor effectively manages LOA claims and advises employees on eligibility, coverage, and other leave matters.

The supervisor maintains a strong relationship with a leave claims administrator and collaborates with internal partners to ensure successful vendor technological interfaces. The supervisor reviews documents, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance and assists colleagues, leaders, and HR partners with questions regarding leave programs.

Providing professional, high-quality customer service through phone, email, tickets, and online chat is a key responsibility. The supervisor also oversees and may administer specialized leave requests, particularly those under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), state and local leave laws, paid leave programs, and company-sponsored short-term or long-term disability plans. This is a hands-on role, frequently assisting with day-to-day workloads.

Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree, Associate of Arts degree or five (5) years of leave administration (or related) experience.
  • One (1) year of human resources experience
  • Previous leadership and/or supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated planning, organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Demonstrated appropriate decision making under challenging situations.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to function independently and cooperatively.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and organizational skills.
  • High level of expertise in written, oral, and interpersonal communication
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Effective people skills
  • Ability to take ownership of assigned projects and manage competing priorities.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Previous experience supervising staff that includes hiring, orientation, coaching, and team building of professional staff.
  • Experience as an LOA Administrator
  • Demonstrated competency with Microsoft Outlook, Access, Visio, PowerPoint, Excel


Hours/Location:



  • M-F; Days
  • May primarily work remote but will require an occasional onsite presence for meetings and/or workgroup sessions.


Responsibilities:



  • Responsible for the supervision of the leave team, including having the authority to hire, transfer, lay off, promote, discipline and discharge, train, reward, and review performance of employees.
  • Update and/or recommend revisions to company leave policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Responsible for overall program performance and day to day service delivery
  • Assist with oversight of the leave claims administrator relationship.
  • Collaborate with the HRIS team to ensure successful vendor interfaces are in place within the Company HR systems for accurate data recording and reporting.
  • Provide guidance to EHS team on worker's compensation leaves that run concurrently with state and federal leave programs.
  • Support performance measurements tools used within organization to identify and facilitate continuous improvement initiatives focused on LOA services.
  • Identify and provide recommendations to help improve workflow, productivity, and enhance customer service.
  • Assist with departmental budgetary responsibilities.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information in accordance with Federal, Corporate and Department policies
  • Participate in various committees, task forces, projects, and quality improvement teams, as needed and assigned.
  • Maintain knowledge of all applicable leave and accommodation laws including the FMLA, ADA, and state and local laws
  • Maintain utmost confidentiality, professionalism, positive attitude and integrity in all customer and colleague interactions.
  • Perform other duties or special projects as directed.
