JOB SUMMARY
This position will be responsible for administering dietetic counseling to research participants within the prescribed parameters of trial protocols and with scope of their license. This position will not see patients in the clinic and will not bill for their services. Furthermore, this position will be responsible for identifying subjects for studies via chart abstraction to ensure criteria is met, scheduling and coordinating study visits per protocol, performing other study related procedures such as obtaining vitals and weight, and ensuring participant and regulatory compliance by preparing trial reports and logs.

  • Education
    Effective January 1, 2024, a graduate degree will be required for new candidates who qualify for the certification exam. Candidates who qualify for the exam or have received their Registered Dietitian credential prior to January 1, 2024 are grandfathered and will only require a Bachelor's degree.

    No experience required.


  • Licenses and Certifications
    (RD) REGISTERED DIETITIAN by the Commission on Dietetic Registration Upon Hire
    (LDIE) LICENSED DIETITIAN in the State of Texas Upon Hire
    If awaiting registration or licensure at time of hire, must be obtained within 6 months of hire date. Must be supervised by a dietitian who is credentialed with the Commission on Dietetic Registration and Licensed in the State of Texas while undergoing the proceeding


JOB DUTIES



  • Directly interacts with clinical research participants, as required for the research study, including provision of individualized medical nutrition therapy within scope of the license and research protocol. Interacts via telephone, telehealth, or in-person.
  • Revises nutritional plan in response to laboratory results and other health markers within scope of license, University, and Department protocols while under general supervision and maintains research protocol parameters.
  • Performs nutrition-focused physical exams according to departmental and research protocols.
  • Assesses learning needs of all clinical research participants and provides appropriate education as a component of the nutrition care plan within scope of the protocol.
  • Monitors patient safety by reviewing records and ensuring appropriate reporting per protocol and HRPP standards.
  • Develops knowledge of side effects and/or complications associated with common research interventions.
  • Coordinates and schedules study procedures as per protocol. Approved study protocols which have order sets built may be pended by the Research Dietitian with oversight by PI.
  • Maintains and coordinates data collection information and subject level documentation required for each study, which may also include developing CRF's or data collection tools.
  • Conducts study procedures according to the protocol with proper training and check offs to maintain scope of work.
  • Screens, recruits, enrolls and follows subjects according to protocol guidelines. May also assist with consent process.
  • May assist with review of research study protocols to ensure feasibility, with emphasis on nutritional aspects of protocols.
  • Develops proficiency in the clinical trial management system, electronic medical record and other required data entry systems.
  • Attends continuing education programs to remain current in the field.
  • Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions: a) Directly interacting with or caring for patients; b) Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants; c) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing, or similarly affecting patient records (including patient financial records) d) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing, or similarly affecting human-subjects research records.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
