The role of Natural Gas Detector (NGD) Operating Supervisor entails direct supervision and oversight of contractor field forces for the safe and timely installation and replacement of NGDs across the Gas Service territory. Additionally, the Operating Supervisor is responsible for responding to NGD alarms as directed by the Gas Emergency Response Center (GERC).This role establishes and enforces expectations that align with our corporate strategy and support our corporate values of Service, Honesty, Concern, Courtesy, Excellence and Teamwork. - Supervise the safe and timely installation and replacement of NGDs across the Gas Service territory.
- Oversee contractor field forces daily to ensure they follow gas safety standards, work methods, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Maintain accurate records of project progress, safety incidents, and contractor performance.
- Regularly assess contractor performance in work methods, workmanship quality, environmental safety, contract adherence, schedule compliance, and responsiveness to issues.
- Regularly document contractor performance through Contractor Field Observation Reports (CFOR) and any infractions, as applicable, utilizing the Contractor Oversight System.
- Keep precise records of project progress, safety incidents, and contractor performance. Submit project status reports as required.
- Manage contractor personnel to maximize productivity and meet objectives. Act as the primary liaison between the contractor, internal stakeholders, and customers.
- Travel to different job locations and customer premises to oversee work, review job requirements, and discuss details. Regularly inspect installation sites and ensure that post-installation records are accurate and comply with policies and procedures.
- Supports the installation of software enhancements and improvements from an end-user perspective, including providing recommendations for workflow optimization, conducting user acceptance testing, and delivering training sessions.
- Safely and promptly respond to odor, leak, and emergency notifications. Manage incidents and emergencies, often as the Incident Commander.
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree Business Management/Administration, Engineering, or related discipline and 2+ years related work experience in the operation and maintenance of a gas distribution system or equivalent operations experience. or
- Associate's Degree Business Management/Administration, Engineering, or related discipline and 4+ years related work experience in the operation and maintenance of a gas distribution system or equivalent operations experience. or
- High School Diploma/GED and 5+ years related work experience in the operation and maintenance of a gas distribution system or equivalent operations experience.
Relevant Work Experience
- Working knowledge and experience within the gas distribution system, required
- Experience leading a team in field operations or supervising a contractor workforce, including emergency response and off-hour on-call responsibilities, required.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks independently and effectively in a fast-paced and emergency environment, required.
- Proven track record of achieving business objectives and performance goals, required.
- Demonstrated adaptability, flexibility, and teamwork skills, required.

- Working knowledge and experience with Natural Gas Detectors (NGD), preferred.
- Working knowledge of Company safety standards and programs, preferred.

Additional Physical Demands
- Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
- 5 days a week in-person for office and field work.
- Must fulfill the requirements of the Operator Qualification for the assigned area of supervision within one (1) year of accepting the position.
- Work requires off-hour on-call responsibility (Duty Supervisor) on a rotational basis providing emergency response and supervision of personnel engaged in off-hour emergency operations.
- Must fulfill the requirements of the Duty Supervisor qualification within nine (9) months of accepting the position.
- Work is conducted outside, in varied conditions and terrain including adverse weather conditions, climbing and working in areas of limited space, and in a shared office environment.
- At times, requires working long hours in response to outage situations and shift coverage requirements.
- Work requires sitting, walking, standing, stair climbing, completion of paperwork, using a telephone and computer and attending meetings.
- At times, work with computers for long periods of time during the day.
- Travel to other company divisions may be required.
- Travel to other company locations to attend training may also be required.
- Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
- This position is subject to drug and alcohol testing as required by the Department of Transportation.
