THE POSITION

If you are a motivated individual looking for a paid internship and the chance to apply your academic knowledge, the Department of Health has an exciting opportunity for you! As an intern, you will gain valuable work experience while helping to improve the health of Pennsylvania residents. Join our team and work with the Bureau of Epidemiology's Division of Surveillance to conduct interviews with patients who have enteric diseases. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

You will have the opportunity to gain experience in conducting phone interviews with patients and documenting key health information and exposures. You will also assist in outbreak investigations and participate in team meetings to support disease surveillance and response efforts. Additionally, you will have the chance to work on special projects and contribute to database management and data entry tasks. This position requires a genuine interest in advocating for vulnerable populations and their access to resources and services to achieve health equity.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Part-time internship, up to 20 hours per week
  • The internship will start as soon as possible and will continue until the end of the school year or graduation.
  • Work hours are flexible, Monday - Friday.
  • Some remote work during evenings and weekends is required.
  • Some ground travel is recommended but not required.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Internship Requirements:

  • You must have current full-time enrollment in a bachelor's degree program or higher.
  • You must have good academic standing (as defined by a GPA of 2.0 or higher).
  • You must have Pennsylvania residency or enrollment at a Pennsylvania college or university.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must possess a valid driver's license that is not under suspension.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualification (not required):

  • Graduate students preferred
