Pay rate: $30-37/hr - Depending on Education and Experience


Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated laboratory technician with microbiology experience. As part of the Microbiology team, you will be responsible for laboratory organization, equipment maintenance, cleaning, testing, documenting, and evaluating instruments and consumables to support the company's assay development activities.

Responsibilities:


  • Perform instrument qualification testing.
  • Set up AST assays for R&D studies.
  • Ensure lab is organized and cardboard boxes are removed.
  • Maintenance (including upgrades) of instruments and equipment, including preventive maintenance and calibrations.
  • Handle and dispose of biohazardous materials in compliance with OSHA and with Biosafety procedures and maintain clean lab environment.
  • Make sure biohazard bins are in place after waste pickup.
  • Organize strain collection.
  • Receive and organize supplies.
  • General lab cleaning of incubators, freezers, biological safety cabinets.
  • Saline sterility testing.
  • Prepare loads for autoclaving and monitoring efficacy.
  • Perform other microbiology testing procedures including but not limited to preparing bacterial stocks, cultures, and bacterial identification.
  • Other lab-related tasks.



Skills or Requirements:

Minimum time and type experience required for this position.

  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Experience performing qualification tests for instrumentation is preferred.
  • Experience with the standard tools and methods of microbiology and aseptic techniques such as pipetting, plating, media preparation, bacterial culture, isolation, etc. is preferred.
  • Experience with bacterial susceptibility testing methods is greatly preferred.



Knowledge, special skills, and/or abilities required to perform the job functions (e.g., negotiation, technical writing, statistical evaluation).

  • Knowledge of aseptic techniques, good documentation practices (GDP), and good laboratory practices (GLP).
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong focus and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize accuracy while following best practices in a fast-paced industrial laboratory environment.
  • Must be flexible and able to adapt to changes in task priority and able to work under time constraints.
  • Good organizational skills, communication, teamwork, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently (after training) to complete assigned tasks.
  • Knowledge of FDA Quality System Regulations is advantageous.



Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to remain in stationary position, often standing for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to wear PPE correctly most of the day.
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery.
  • Ability to adjust or move objects up to 50 pounds in all directions.

  • Lifting (up to 50 lbs) laboratory equipment and supplies and moving containers of various materials.
  • Work involves performing computer applications and standing for extended periods of time.
  • May be exposed to and require the handling of antibiotics and other hazardous materials.
  • May be exposed and require the handling of body fluids and potentially infectious biohazardous materials.
  • May be exposed to odors incurred during media preparation and frozen panel production.
  • Lab work is performed wearing safety glasses and lab coat and following standard BSL2 safety guidelines. Excellent personal hygiene required.
  • Reasonable, reliable attendance and punctuality is an essential job function required for this position.
