Job Purpose:

The Automation Technician is responsible for troubleshooting and maintenance of Automation and Controls systems in a dynamic environment requiring minimal downtime of the machinery.

Shift Information: 3:00pm - 11:00pm; Monday - Friday.



Key Accountabilities:

  • Partner with Automation Professional to troubleshoot automation issues.
  • Basic skills in using in Allen Bradley PLC's RSLogix 5000, 500, 5, RSlinx, RSNetworx, and RSLinx.
  • Ethernet IP, DeviceNet, ControlNet, Sercos, and Serial communication protocols.
  • Experience with Wonderware and Factory Talk View Studio HMIs.
  • Computer Skills & Knowledge - can use a Windows PC & has experience with the MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook & Power Point).
  • Can read and interpret IEC standard electrical drawings.
  • Experience with installation & commissioning of small to large low voltage (480VAC) AC & DC drives.
  • Experience with temperature controllers & (PID) loops .
  • Knowledge of electric theory and perform electrical calculations.
  • Proficient in reading electrical drawings, identifying components and wiring including PI & D drawings.
  • Ability to troubleshoot using electrical instruments and circuit knowledge, both 3 phase electrical systems & low voltage power systems (control & signal).
  • Ability to install, wire and maintain relays, photo-eyes, limit switches, proximity switches, solenoid valves, motors, starters, VFD's, PLC I/O modules, analog control devices, safety circuits, etc.
  • Ability to install and maintain metal detectors, checkweighers, date coders and case coders.
  • Identification of improvements. Programming (minor modifications/configuration) to implement improvements in the PLC Logic and HMIs. Save, upload and download programs when modification/improvements are implemented.
  • Lead and drive the efforts of Continuous Improvement and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
  • Assist with execution of safety work orders.
  • Support maintenance team by working on shift when necessary (shift coverage or training).
  • Assist with training for maintenance technicians on using PLC troubleshooting tools
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance as necessary on all production and packaging equipment.
  • Troubleshoot any maintenance issues throughout the plant, including PLC's and VFD's.
  • Complete various projects and work orders as assigned.
  • Partner with Processing and Packaging to ensure product flow (e.g., work with operators on troubleshooting, machine operation and format/size changes).
  • Prioritize maintenance work and assist other maintenance technicians.
  • Assist and/or lead in maintenance procedures through contractors/vendors.
  • Work and communicate well with others and effectively contribute to the working relationships within the plant.
  • Day and Night shift support as needed



Additional Information:


  • AA degree in maintenance or an equivalent trade school certificate preferred but not required.

  • Requires a minimum of 3 years of manufacturing maintenance experience (mechanical and electrical) Prior knowledge of Automation and Controls Systems include: Allen Bradley PLCs; Wonderware In-Touch and Rockwell HMIs; Cognex, Vision Systems; Ethernet IP and DeviceNet communication protocols; VFDs, and Motion Controls Systems (servo motors). and experience with PLC's and VFD's. Basic knowledge of MSOffice.
