General Summary of Job Responsibilities
The Manager Forestry involves supervisory and operating responsibilities on the electric and gas systems with knowledge of forestry, arboricultural standards and/ or vegetation management practices. The Manager in this role have the ability to initiate and lead/support projects or change implementation efforts to improve results and are able to perform effectively and efficiently in routine and nonroutine/emergency situations with minimal guidance. The Manager of Forestry has direct responsibility for contractual oversight and vegetation management in routine and non-routine work performed including reconciliation of pay; responsibility for internal direct repots and external labor workforce of contractor direct points-of-contact; depending on shifting workloads, priorities, system reliability, environmental constraints, and initiatives. Work involves safety compliance, MPSC compliance, quality control for arboricultural and vegetation management standards, strategic planning, scheduling, organizing, directing, dispatching, complete oversight in areas such as program and construction work, cost adherence, policy & procedure applications, storm response management, site readiness inspections, and customer interfaces.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage the scope, schedule and cost of construction projects; apply thorough understanding of policy coupled with leadership skills to resolve process and construction barriers
- Review customer interaction for internal/external concerns; includes customer request/concerns/inquiries regarding vegetation management practices and standards, resolving MPSC/corporate complaints and addressing concerns over access, easement rights, and property restoration. Provide and maintain positive customer and employee relations with all forms of communication; includes verbal, e-mail, text and non-verbal communications
- Responsible for work plan adherence, adjustments to work plan, backlog management, coordination with internal stakeholders. Participate in cross functional Daily Operating Reviews and cross functional Weekly Operating Reviews. Coordinate with HVD and LVD Line Department and/or Gas T&S OM&C work groups supporting short cycle and long cycle projects; includes weekly Project alignment meetings, new business installation, infrastructure rebuilds, capacity project support, solar project support, Gas T&S and EIRP construction projects, real estate partnership for obtaining new easements and coordination with engineering/planning as a SME for future maintenance of infrastructure
- Manage and monitor work performed by non-company crews, including management of contractual items. Set up and facilitate pre-bid and pre-construction meetings for large infrastructure improvement projects (Rebuilds HVD, LVD, Gas Transmission and Storage (Gas T&S) Re-hab, 3rd party developers, and Gas Enhanced Infrastructure Replacement Program (EIRP) construction projects). Provide planning, direction, regulatory compliance and oversight to assure completion of work in a safe and cost-effective manner.
- Lead storm restoration efforts with non-company crews for HVD and LVD systems, including using ADMS (Outage Management System) for work order management, dispatching crews and utilize 3-way communication. Weekly on-call rotation for Forestry Department for Work Management Center's (WMC's) as single point of contact for tree related emergent events on the distribution, 46kV system and 138KV system
- Conduct regular safety meetings with CE employees and contractor crews, regular safety site visits, investigates and completes necessary incident reports and accident reports; maintain records, prepare and submit required reports for appropriate agencies
- Responsible to support Daily Operating Reviews, Weekly Operating Reviews, Monthly Operating Reviews, Rally Rooms, Problem Solving Events, Safety Health and Guidance Teams, Safety Culture Teams, Fix It Now Teams, Safety Grass Roots Teams, Financial Programs. Understanding of company and departmental metrics/financials, creation/updating of visual management, problem solving, lean tool education and utilization, Waste Elimination identification, input and follow through to completion for cost savings, automation identification
- Provide project leadership, operational leadership and impose safe work practices. Ensure employee development through knowledge transfer, individualized mentoring and structured training. Mentor, support and lead co-workers in the team with training, development, mental positivity, and process questions. Coach and lead by example for other team members, so they can be successful with individual and team goals

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Knowledge of basic forestry principles, arboricultural standards and vegetation management practices, methods, and equipment. Ability to know when to implement various techniques and equipment use
- Contract management/enforcement
- Knowledge/Understanding and application of planning and scheduling process (SAP)
- Task analysis skills, CAIDI, SAIFI, SAIDI strategy and tactics
- Skill in transfer of knowledge and employee development
- Knowledge of and experience in LVD and HVD line operations including emergent/unplanned service restoration to both HVD and LVD system. Understanding of grid infrastructure
- Leadership Acumen
- Knowledge and application of work methods, work processes, and related technology in the field of Electric and Gas Operations
- Skilled in negotiating and conflict resolution with internal and external clients
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Forestry or Natural Resources Related Field. A degree in business or related disciple may be considered if accompanied by extensive applicable experience with4 years of experience thatpossess basic forestry knowledge, be fluent in vegetation management practices, methods and equipment, arboricultural standards and will have the ability to know when to implement various techniques and equipment use. Should possess basic knowledge/understanding of Safety Culture, safety management systems, change management efforts in a challenging environment. Basic understanding of work/construction methods of electric/gas/water/utility systems and applicable standards/laws pertaining to the operation of utility infrastructure. Previous experience managing a work plan and obtain corporate goals, provide oversight to company and contracted work force, manage and enforce compliance with contracts and contractors, enforce safe work practices.
