POSITION: Supervising Attorney (Full-Time Position)

LOCATION: Hybrid/Remote - Dallas, Texas
OVERVIEW: Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas (LANWT) seeks a dynamic, self-starting attorney with vision, initiative, and a demonstrated commitment to public interest law to help in the management of its Legal Aid Line. The Legal Aid Line (LAL) includes LANWT's centralized telephone intake as well as the online intake module (OIM). The LAL provides legal services to individuals throughout LANWT's service area and refers eligible matters to LANWT's branch offices.
DESCRIPTION: LANWT is a non-profit public interest law firm that provides high-quality free civil legal services to low-income persons in 114 counties in North and West Texas.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The principal duties of the Supervising Attorney include overseeing all aspects of operations of the LAL. The Supervising Attorney will recruit, train, and supervise attorneys and support staff in the provision of quality legal services. Other responsibilities include:
- Scheduling of adequate staff for the LAL and OIM.
- Ensure and oversee time and attendance for staff scheduled take corrective action or find replacements when needed.
- Ensure that the staff assigned to shifts are efficiently conducting intake and processing calls in a professional manner.
- Develop and maintain LAL and OIM protocols and training manuals.
- Prepare reports on LAL intake, referrals, pending cases and closures.
- Ensure timely and appropriate referrals and closures within LANWT priorities.
- Recruit, train, and provide ongoing development to LAL and OIM staff.
- Conduct employee performance evaluations and handle corrective action or disciplinary issues.
- Ensure staff comply with grant requirements, including legal work, goals, objectives, timely submission of reports, proposed numerical outcomes and outreach.
- Monitor open cases for activity and review referred and closed cases for proper recordkeeping, file maintenance, grant compliance and overall quality of service provided.
- Participate in management meetings and projects.
- Handle client complaints, processes, administrative items and issues related to timekeeping, travel, leave, check requests, training requests, payroll, etc.
- Other duties which may from time-to-time be assigned by the Intake Supervisor, Deputy Director and Chief Executive Officer.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Licensed to practice law in Texas.
- A minimum of 3 years relevant legal experience and a demonstrated, zealous commitment to public interest law, serving the indigent, or other relevant legal experience.
- Strong understanding of the Texas Rules of Civil Procedure and Texas Rules of Evidence required.
- Strong trial and advocacy skills that include progressive litigation and the ability to distill and teach the essential elements of these skills to others.
- Previous management, supervisory, or leadership experience preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- Highly organized and able to handle multiple tasks and priorities.
- Ability to learn and utilize technology in the delivery of service, adapting legal service delivery models to evolving client needs and technologies.
- The ability to think and plan strategically and to develop and implement projects.
- Ability to have a flexible work schedule.
- Possess a strong work ethic and a sense of accountability.
- Ability to engage in occasional work-related travel.
